Thousands of people are charged with crimes each year, that if convicted could put them in jail for a long time.

When there is some doubt about the strength of the evidence or the authorities feel the chances of getting a conviction are 50/50 or less, they will offer the accused a chance to plead guilty to a lesser charge rather got to trail.

The Plea Bargain allows the authorities to get the satisfaction of getting an admission of guilt plus a conviction on your record, and you get the satisfaction of staying out of jail for a long time.

So if you were INNOCENT, and charged with a crime that could put you in jail for along time, would you plead guilty to a FELONY to stay our of jail, or roll the dice and choose to go trail and possibly have some ignorant jury will get it wrong or some fast talking DA get a conviction, sending you to jail for a long time.
