If a goverment with a dictator can protect your family from violence and crimes, would you whether have that, or is the right to protest more important?

I think in many areas of the usa, the goverment is not able to protect it's citizens.

My question is, would you give up the right to protest or critizize your goverment if it meant you would not live in fear of out of control violent acts against you and your family?

yes, family more important than freedoms
no, freedom over rules all

If I thought it was guaranteed, then maybe, depending on whether I had something to protest. But for now I'll stick with the old way. I don't live in fear of anything, and I will protect my family, legally or illegally.
No. A "beign" Slavemaster may be able to guarantee "safety" ... but at what cost?

"People who trade freedom for security don't deserve neither of them." I don't remember where I read this (maybe on someone's user page?), or who said it, but I totally agree.
In my heart is always going to be a place for what someone could define as: "benevolent dictatorship". But my mind knows there is never going to exist a benevolent dictatorship. I am a conservative and fascism does appeal to me in some degree. But on the other hand I consider democracy to be the best form of ruling that exists. Because democracy allows for a feed-back between government and public to exist: through the response of the public to the government's decision. And that means that the probability for the government to do mistakes or to correct them is high. So the social tension accumulates slowly and is released slowly and gradually (like 10 small earthquakes prevent a big one from happening) and so the system (society) has a higher stabylity. In a system which doesn't allow public protest, the tension will be gradually accumulated and suddenly released. So the system will collapse.

BTW: great question.
Those who are willing to trade freedom for security deserve neither freedom nor security.
