WOULD YOU WANT THIS PERSON TO BE A POLICE OFFICER IN YOUR TOWN?

[+] serious ballot by TinCan

In Columbus, Officer Susan Purtee has been reassigned to a desk job following the discovery of several videos that she and her sister made and posted on youtube. These videos were viciously disparaging of blacks, Jews, Cubans and illegal immigrants.

I won't publish what she and her sister said and give these racist and anti-semitic comments any further publication. Think of any of the typical comments regarding blacks, Jews, Cubans and illegal immigrants at a Klan or Nazi party meeting.

Among her sister's comments when questioned about the videos: "We've had a lot of fun with it. I don't see that we've ever harmed anybody." Asked if she saw anything wrong with a police officer's role in making such comments, Gordon-Bell called the opinions "reality." "And reality and racism and bigotry run awful close together."

Mayor Michael Coleman has called the videos and offensive and the Police Dept has started an investigation. Oddly, the FOP has stated that they will provide legal representation if necessary. Odd because the code of conduct for Columbus police clearly states that the highest standard of conduct is expected both on and off the job.

There's a free speech issue here but this ballot isn't about this. She's entitled to say whatever she wants and not be a police officer. She made the choice to become a police officer and to be a positive example and representation of the best of her city.

Soooo.... would you want this person to be a police officer in your community? (Remember Mark Furman of the LAPD? His racist comments helped sink the prosecution of O.J. Simpson. Any case this woman would be involved in involving any of these minority groups would immediately be suspect.)

I want to point out that I have the highest respect for police officers. This is certainly not reflective of any police officers that I have known (as a crime victim).

No, a higher level of conduct is and should be expected of police officers
Yes, I like Klan and Nazi party members and their sympathizers and cohorts being police officers
