It seems strange that for a short period humans were building huge stone temples on 2 continents, and then all of sudden it stopped, and it wasn't until thousands of years later we were able to duplicate this, but only with the help of modern tools and technology.

The ability and precision exhibited to do this exceeded any of the known technology available to these people at the time. No evidence has been uncovered, only theories provided, to explain how they did it.

And why did the building all of a sudden come to stop, not to be resumed until modern technology was available, if they were able to do it themselves?
