Yes, I know I did this ballot yonks ago, but here's the thing. The Bush people would have you believe that civil unions are perfectly adequate for gay people. But it is not true.

Here's an example. Two of my good friends are gay. They both live here (USA); one's British and the other's American. My British friend would love to get a place in England so they could live there at least part of the year. However, since they can't marry, there would be a big problem because he would have to jump through hoops getting back into the States (even though he has lived here the better part of 30 years).

Why the hell should this be anything but a practical issue? Marriage protects people's legal rights, whether gay or straight.
