well, i’m very sorry to report that herzog has decided that he will not be returning to best&worst under any circumstances for the foreseeable future.

as many of you know, herzog was one of the best contributors on this site. you may not have liked what he posted in ballots or comments, but few will deny that he is a very intelligent guy who stirred debate. and isn’t that the whole purpose of this site? to post things that make you think? that make you consider other views and other angles to current events?

before i continue, i want to point out that this is not in any way, shape or form a ballot meant to stir up controversy. nor is it a ballot meant to attack lcd or make him explain his position any further – he’s done that and it is what it is. so please no attacks on lcd. likewise, please don’t make any attacks on herzog. all i’m doing is telling you what his decision is.

many of you might not know this, but herzog and i did not get along at first. in fact we had some pretty intense “arguments.” but once i got to know him, i realized what a really good person he is – intelligent, thoughtful, funny and extremely kind. to his detractors, i'd like to ask – did you know this about him? probably not. most who attacked him just did so out of reflex – you could have just ignored his ballots and comments you know. instead you hounded him from ballot to ballot repeating the same attacks. when challenged to give direct and concrete evidence of his supposed racism, you never did. never could.

so once he and i developed a relationship, here’s what some of you said –

“you’re a kool aid drinker kevin – you’re being brainwashed.” then it became “wow kev, you and herzog must be butt buddies.” once neither of those attacks worked, it became “if you like him, then you’re a racist too.” bear in mind, herzog is not a racist. you might have known that if you took the time to deal with him directly.

you may not have liked his ballots, but you made a huge mistake --- you assumed that his ballots were a direct reflection on him and who he is. they’re not.

ask yourself this – is everything you post on here an accurate and full account of who you really are as a person? i doubt it.

so we lose a great contributor and a really all-around good guy and this site loses some of its former dynamic energy. as someone who has gotten to know herzog off this site, let me say that he is a very cool dude – someone i can trust, someone who gives thoughtful advice and someone who treats people with respect and courtesy. i for one am majorily bummed that he’s not coming back. if you think about it, i'm sure you feel the same way too.

his decision not to return is a major loss for this site
