KIDNAP CASES: IS IT REALLY BENEFICAL TO OFFER BIG REWARDS FOR INFORMATIONS?

[+] serious ballot by seamus
created Tue May 22, 07

I'm thinking specifically in the case of Maddie Mccann. Rewards of £2.5m have been offered to anyone with information leading to the four-year-old's safe return. On one hand this great amount of money will make sure this case is not forgotten but on the other hand it cripples the ongoing official investigations since the cops are being flooded with hundreds of letters containing false clues, which neverthless must be investigated.
What do you think?

rewards are always beneficial
moderate rewards are beneficial
rewards do more harm than good
Rewards sometimes help but also lead to a lot of false clues
