You know tornado, fire or the like--house completley gone.
I bet there's lots of homeless ghosts in the Gulf Coast area these days.

haunt under a bridge
haunt a homeless shelter
haunts FEMA
Maybe the house becomes a phantom house
The ghost haunts the person(s) who destroyed the house for the rest of their lives.
Haunts new orleans?
The ghost still haunts whatever is built on the site

Perhaps the destroyed building becomes a ghost itself, and lingers on in another, more spectral, form. Sort of like the legends of ghost ships that appear out of the fog. Then again, maybe the ghost just moves to another location and starts a whole new, er, life.

I don't know if ghosts are real, but i would assume it would remain at the scene of the crime :D
