OUR VOTE IN AN ELECTION ENTERING US IN A MILLION DOLLAR LOTTERY? WHAT SHOULD WE SAY ABOUT THIS?

[+] ballot by Copernicustomized
created Wed May 31, 06

Far more people vote for contestants on "American Idol" each week than vote in the presidential election, and obviously far more still than vote in state elections. Arizona's proposed solution to this is to enter a registered voter in a million dollar state lottery when he punches a ballot. Seriously. So, how must a sane person respond to the very suggestion of this made public?

If I win the lottery but my guy loses the election, can I still keep the money?
Now lobbyists have another outlet for their laundered money
Just ONE million? Hell, Howie's gettin' ready to give away FIVE!
Head for the shelters, kids. It's the apocalypse for sure
Maybe it can be like a trifecta if we get the governor and both senators right?
Japan is SO laughing at us...again
What about the million clams AND Suns season tickets?
Catering to morons
People might not go for the best candidate, they'd just blindy pick

Because a great many of those who dont vote don't do so out of distaste for the system and the candidates. If those same people started voting and voicing their opinions, a third party might have a chance instead of the ones we get stuck with every four years. That might not be Arizona's reasons for implementing a voters lottery, but it's a damn good reason to vote. Having said that, I dont think a lottery is a good idea at all. It may very well draw people in who have absolutely no idea what any of the candidates are about. They'll be more or less picking a name out of a hat then when they vote. Not a good idea.

And the *rest* of the Cosmos. And don't even *mention* how far off selling your vote would entail...

"would *come to* entail," I meant.
