Given what we now know about the Iraq war: the lies about WMD, the deliberate deceptions; the missing link to terrorists; the enrichment of major corporations by the war; the usurpation of liberty by this administration; the callous disregard for international law; the lie upon lie upon lie, should the President (and/or others) be impeached and jailed? Why or why not.

Yes Bush should be impeached
No, Bush should not be impeached
Bush and Cheney should be impeached
None of the Bush officials should be impeached
The entire Bush administration should be impeached

Aww I was thinking of creating a ballot like this.
The entire administration needs to be impeached. They lied about wmd’s, created secret CIA prisons, torture people, hold people without a trail, pass acts that violate the US constitution and send terror suspects to other countries to be tortured and create more terrorism when they claim there trying to prevent it. All for the lie of protecting American citizens.
But when you give up your liberty for security you don’t get security you only get tyranny. History has shown us that.
If you value your freedom and liberty then you should impeach them.

President Bush is the greatest leader of the United States since Abraham Lincoln. This great country of ours is in peril and so we need someone with guts and determination to see things through. The Iraqi security forces grow in strength month by month, we are killing Jihadists the world over with our true friends, the British.

Weenies like Michael Moore would have surrendered the Union to the Confedaracy or to Canada after the first battle of Bull Run.

and another thing God bless America.
and God bless President George W Bush.
Time for your meds Soldier... from a concerned Brit.

Best hurry FOX News is about to broadcast a story of how Bush is the direct descendant of Jesus and anyone to the left of Genghis Khan is the spawn of Satan. It must be true, FOX says so.

I dont believe what I hear on Fox news. In fact I dont even own a television but I do read a lot of books and do have a background in the military so I know that worthy battles are long and hard.

I was IN the armed forces and I KNOW what bullets do.

I am also very well read, I would be fascinated to know how someone as well read as you claim to be can be so easily duped.

Your almost god-like worship of Bush and his cronies just staggers me.

Even Republicans on this site admit he is bad news for his party, how do you continue to support his administration.

The first casualty in war is the truth.

Margaret... don't tell me you are one of these lefties who think the first and only business that congress should take up if democrats regain congress is to impeach Bush. Apparently you are though.

Hey revenge is great! Screw dealing with any real issue! Lets impeach the bastard! Screw health care! Screw poverty! Screw the economy! Screw everything!

Lets be just like the dumbass republicans were under Clinton. geeeez.

I respect your military background and yes, I know what bullets do as well. In a time of struggle it is important to stick with your leader. I would support President John Kerry if he was fighting Al Queda. I personally believe that the right choices have been made. That is my opinion and I respect anyone elses right to disagree with me.
Voted : Bush and Cheney should be impeached
They broke the law (Congressional & Constitutional).

They sought to undermine american government and values (unitary executive, torture, etc.)

They engineered an unnecessary war.

They *&^%ing lie every time their lips move.

They should not only be impeached,, but tried for War Crimes.

I'll also say that I find it irritating thart anyone who shows interest in principles and ethics (e.g., questions if Bush should be impeached) is automatically labelled Leftist -- as if only a leftwing extremist could imagine such a thing. Bull.

IMO, anyone with integrity not only imagines it, but desires it. Left, Right, Center, and anywhere in between.

IMO, anyone who does not either doesn't grasp the situation, is too deep in denial to acknowledge the situation, or has no integrity, themselves.

And one does not "stick with their leader no matter what" ... that is what enables evil and creates dictatorships. Such reasoning is the enemy of democracy.

You show loyalty to the principles of your country, not to any one man.

And when trhe two are at odds -- as they are now, you choose Country over Man.
But Cathexis we are at war and in a time of war the rules of civil society are different. I only hope that this is not an Orwellian "war without end" and that eventually we can revoke the Patriot Act.

In war you dont have to be nice. You just have to be right. - Winston Spencer Churchill

" They should not only be impeached,, but tried for War Crimes."

Sorry cathexis, but this places you in the loony left along with Cynthia McKinney. Where I live we have both a competitive house and senate race. Both Democrats are liberals and both have more rationality and common sense in a hair on their big toe than the kind of belief portrayed in your comment.

I'm glad at least for the moment, that the people running for office as democrats aren't a bunch of hyperventilating bloggers or so called democrats on this site.

If you like mr cathexis... I'll match up your statements with those of the loony left and then compare them to the rational democrats in congress and those running.

How about making stopping the GENOCIDE in Sudan the first order of business? An issue that you, many of your choir, the denizens of this website and the leftie bloggers ignore. Hey! It is more important to try to impeach Bush. It won't work, it will waste money, it will distract from real problems, and practically guarantee that Democrats will be voted out of office en masse in 2008.

Its weird. I still fit in with normal democrats, but I don't with so-called democrats on this site. Proof: Is Clinton (Hillary or Bill) calling for Bush to be put on trial for war crimes? Is Kerry? Is even Howard Dean?

You have an extreme viewpoint. I don't.

And I hardly have any love for Bush.

SB: If you have someone grossly incompetent in charhe, you replace him withb someone competent -- war or no war. You don't let honorable soldiers die because of political incompetence.

And you do not countenance attacks on the Constitution ... ever.

FF: Tsk. Have you now joine dthe ranks of the political ideologues who cannot win with ideas or points, so they merely attempt to deride?

As ytou cherry pick people with whom to compare my opinions, please remember to include respected Conservatives who have not sold their principles for partisnaship or personal cognitive resonance.

FF: I have been quite specific in my rationale why Bush & Cheney deserve impeachment. I have also separated the disgusting and reprehensibel tactics of the GOP from such language (i.e., the whole Admin doesn't merit impeachment -- although I'd be delighted to see them out of office).

And your respons eis merely to aattempt to associate me with 'the Loony Left?'

I expected better.

And you do not countenance attacks on the Constitution ... ever.

With the greatest of respect I have to disagree. One of the most fundamental rules of life is "Change or die". If we fail to adapt to our environment we will die as a species. The same rule applies to corporations, armies and nations.

We cannot wait for the suicide bomber to do his or her work because they will then be beyond punishment from society.

The introduction of the suicide mass murderer is a fundamental change in our environment we cannot afford to ignore.

1. They didn't break any law... If they had, they would be impeached.
2. They didn't seek to undermine american government and values... If they had, they wouldn't have received more votes for President than any other person in the history of the U.S.A.
3. They're managing a NECESSARY war.
4. Just because YOU don't like what they say doesn't mean that it's a lie. You just can't over the fact that President Clinton did in fact lie.
5. They have not committed any war crimes. The war in Iraq has the support of the U.S. Congress.
6. No one cares what you find irritating. No one cares what I find irritating. The fact is that you're a HATER if you feel that President Bush should be impeached.
7. You have no integrity, therefore, your opinion regarding impeaching President Bush has no weight. Thank goodness.
8. Let me get this correct. If we don't agree with your grasp of the situation, then we have no integrity, or are in denial. You sound like a NAZI. All hail the new Fuhrer: Cathexis. Now I'm really confused if you're a radical or a reactionary. You're certainly an extremist and a narcicist.
9. Evil and dictatorships are only created when dissent is not permitted. Dissent is permitted in the U.S.A., and can co-exist with loyalty.
10. The U.S.A. is not a democracy. It is a democracy within a republic (i.e., a reprsentative democracy). Once you come to terms with that, things may become clearer.
11. You show loyalty to the person trying to protect the principles of the U.S.A. President Bush is doing just that. The two are not currently at odds... no matter how much you believe that they are. Once again I say, stop trying to make our choices for us. The World According To Cathexis --------- See Fiction.

Tod1 and SoldierBlue sound awfully alike.
What a world class jackass. WTF Tode, wearing your Brown shirt today? Sounds like you have a woody for Bush. Calm the fuck down
Though I agree with you in principle Tode1 we need to move away from the childish name calling that drags this site down.
Signed back in as Soldierblue I see. Coy Tode very coy.
Yo Soldier you've been on for what, like 5 days and already you're talking about what drags this site down? Yeah sure you're a new user. Sure you are tough guy
Voted : Bush and Cheney should be impeached
...and a long stay in prison
"WORTHY BATTLES ARE LONG AND HARD"

keep porn off B&W--get a grip!

Bush is too sure he's right, and power mad as a result. He condones torture and uses signing statements and lies to get his way.
Tode -- usually I wouldn't respond to such a ridiculous diatribe ... for the same reason I don't poke dead animals with sticks.

However, today finds me in a rather vicious mood, due to Bush idiocies. Your loss ... *

1. All I can do is stare blankly at this Orwellian statement. The effects of their NSA wiretapping in regards to FISA and the US Constitution come to mind as to BIG contradictions to your statement. Don't take my word for it ... check the court records.

As for 'they shouldn't be punished because if they were guilty they'd already have been punished ...' Congratulations ... you win the Herzog Logic Fallacy award for the day. **

2. See above. I am actually beginning to wonder if you are a liberal plant, trying to undermine actual Bush supporters.

3. Bull. The only thing it is necessary for is to keep them in power and potentially enrich their cronies. EVERY single rationalization for the war has been disproven. Repeatedly.

4. You are right ... Just because *I* don't like what they say doesn't mean that it's a lie. The fact that they are spouting blatant untruths means it's a lie.

The difference between Bush's lies (plural) and Clinton's lie (singular) -- aside from the huge difference in severity -- is that Clinton admitted his lie. Just because a person doesn't admit their lies doesn't mean they aren't lying.

5. The support of the U.S. Congress has nothing to do with whether something is a war crime. Perhaps I could recommend a good Civics class to clear up your confusion? And yes, they have committed war crimes -- with the illegal detainment and harsh treatment of prisoners, for example. Further, I think they *know* they are vulnerable to these charges, which may be why they are so desperate to 'rewrite the rules.'

6. I don't care if anyone cares what I find irritating. What is your point? (Not that I care, but I have a morbid curiosity.)

Calling anyone who dares question Glorious Leader a 'HATER' is a pat way of dodging trying to rationalize his actions. I guess it is easier than having to deal with the facts (since facts have a known Liberal Bias).

I hope it helps you sleep at night.

7. Congratulations on your promotion to Integrity Awarder. I had no idea you had found a way to get past the standard test.

And I again point to the Liberal Bias of facts, here ... but I guess if you can't argue facts (no wonder), your only recourse is to try slander.

8. No, it is 'If you cannot offer some INCREDIBLY world- shaking reframing that puts it all into perspective, yet continue to support Bush ... THEN you have no integrity, or are in denial.

As for your Nazi comments ... thank you. According to the Internet laws of debate, this indicates I have won the discussion. I graciously acknowledge your concession.

9. Your attempts to constrain the definitions are humourous.

Just out of curiosity ... where in this ballot did I say Bush should be impeached because he had successfully achieved a dictatorship? What's that? I didn't? Congratulations ... you also win the Herzog Strawman Award!

10. The US being a republic has absolutely nothing to do with my observations about impeachable crimes. Please explain how this non sequitur has any bearing on our discussion? Or are you getting paid by the word?

11. President Bush is NOT doing anyhthing remoteoly similar to that. By his actions, he is doing the exact opposite.

Stop trying to make your choices for you? Number one, unless you have a mouse in your pocket, don't say 'us.' you flatter yourself that you speak for everyone else. You do not.

Second, dissent is a right. Your interpretation of it as coercion is ... mistaken .. at best.

Now, if you're quite through beating my knuckles bloody with your chin ...

* Usually I believe in civil discourse. But their are certain thresholds of ignorance that call for a harsher response.

** Herz: You know I love ya! wink

Geez ... now I know how a weightlifter who just had a fight with a coma-victim feels. wink
Voted : Yes Bush should be impeached
Impeach Bush!
"Evil and dictatorships are only created when dissent is not permitted."

Tode, then why don't you allow comments on your ballots?

cranky: Feel free to comment about my ballots as much as you like. Your vote IS your comment.

If you don't like my ballots, then don't read them. That is your perogative.

Well... it seems that dissent isn't allowed on B&W.

I replied to Cathexis, point-by-point... but, Cathexis must have some friends at B&W... and they removed my entire response.

Since my comments are being removed... I'll close by simply saying........ Cathexis, you're an idiot.

I doubt that Soldiertode. One of my comments is gone to and I'm sure its just a glitch or something. Take it easy there
Voted : Bush and Cheney should be impeached
I think they have met or exeeded the criteria for impeachment.
Voted : Yes Bush should be impeached
Am I part-Welsh?
Fiddle you seem to forget something. Since the bush administration stole the 2000 election Bush has done nothing but pass illegal acts and stomp on the constitution. Doesn’t someone who thinks he can do anything and thinks he’s “above the law” deserve to be impeached? Of course the democrats wanting to impeach him want revenge for what the right did to Clinton. But impeaching Bush is what’s best for America. Its what’s best for the world.
Oh and I almost forgot spying on American citizens, fixing the 2000 election and staging the 2004 election and his lack of response during new Orleans.
And that brainwashed guy gets some credit. I thought he was a fox news lover but he’s still been brainwashed.

Oh and tode1 Bush is the one who wants to be the new Fuhrer not Cathexis.
“This would be a heck of a lot easier if this was a dictatorship and I was a dictator”
Sound familiar?

seon... if the democrats retake congress it is irrelevant about impeaching him. They can stop the excesses and force him to come up with a plan for leaving Iraq in one piece.

I see impeachment as a waste of time and a distraction. Congress will spend all that time debating and investigating and for what? Not enough will vote for it. Meanwhile, the real issues will not get any attention. Things like:
1. Health care
2. Homelessness
3. A better anti-terror policy
4. The economy
5. The home bubble burst
6. Giving the military enough troops etc, to do what they need to do.
7. Find Osama Bin Laden
8. A real energy policy
9. Global warming
10. Education
11. Social Security
12. Discrimination
13. Illegal immigration
14. Port and airline safety
15. Prescription drug costs
16. Unemployment / underemployment
17. The shipping of US jobs overseas to China and other places
18. Crime
19. Government waste
20. Stopping the genocide in Sudan
21. AND... getting rid of Rumsfeld and replacing him with someone competent.

I could go on and on. Do the people's real business. Not the distraction stuff. Of course... the stuff I listed are the real issues. People don't generally care about those, do they? Or is a feel good impeachment of Bush the number 1 thing to do?

Making impeachment number 1 is pure hubris and dramatically shows how quickly the democrats have already lost their way.

Can they really force Bush to come up with a plan to leave Iraq in one piece if enough democrats win?
Isn’t it America’s democratic right to at least try? Plus isn’t that what the right wingers thought when they wanted Clinton impeached? That it will be a waste of time?
Those are all valid issues. I just think Bush is more of a threat to America’s freedom then any terrorist ever will be. But your right impeaching the Bush administration wont magically solve any of the problems they created.
We’d also have found Binladen by now if it wasn’t for Iraq. Iraq is a distraction and as every day passes the threat of another 911 happening increases.
We could stop the genocide in Sudan now if we had leaders who didn’t only care about there own agenda. There’s no oil is Sudan and no resources we can steal. It’s like Rwanda. I’m to young to remember (all I remember is thinking the names of the “races” sounded funny) but there was nothing for the west there.
Pretend congress does force Bush to take care of the real issues then what? We’d still have the issues of giving up liberty for security and as I said that only leads to tyranny. Will the democrats force Bush to fix those issues or will they just let him carry on and tear apart the constitution. How long before he attacks the 1st amendment in one of his bills?
Isn’t it the democrat’s patriotic right to impeach Bush if he continues to break the law and make America less safe? I think the democrats already lost their way when they chose Kerry to run for president, he was pro war and even voted for the patriot act. It will be the same if they let Hillary run, she’s pro war and pro patriot act.

Damn, Where do I begin? Gentlemen (and Ladies) take your corners until the bell.

>SB

By the sounds of it you would support Adolph Hitler in the mass genocide of all those we label "Enemy Combatants". There are innumerable problems with this philosophy, the least of which are Constitutional and Human Rights related. Germany was at war too, Thank God not all Germans (like Albert Einstein) and the people in German occupied territories didn't think like you.

I support my Country, The 'Office' of the President, and our Troops too, but only to the extent they remain within the law. My first and formost loyalty is to the Rights and Liberties legally bestowed upon American Citizens by the foundation of our 'Democratic' Republic, the Articals of 'The Constitution of the United States of America', and the Due Process of LAW.
This is what America stands for and (represented) in the eyes of the world. (Thanks to Mr. Bush, now we're an abomination. The world sees us as a rogue bully with no respect for international borders or treaties, no respect for the law, human rights or the rights of our own people).

We are not "at (legitimate) war" due to the illegal terms of it's origins. We are engaged in a conlict because we invaded Sovereign Foreign Nations in absence of justifacation. Do you call it "at war" because the indigenous people are defending their Country?

Concerning the Patriot Act:

FYI: Democracy is defined as "A government of the People, for the People".

We elect Representatives to act on our behalf in the due process of the laws that govern us. What happened to Due Process?

When an agent of the people (The President) engages in malfeasance, it is my ( responsibility), as an American citizen and a governor (as defined by Democracy), to account for that agent's conduct, direct Congress to impeach that agent, direct the Federal Court to convene a Grand Jury, and if evidence exists, direct the Federal Prosecutor to file against that agent under the laws of The United States. If I fail in my ( responsibility), then I bear the responsibilty for the crimes that my representative committed (acting on my behalf) and I will (deserve to) pay the consequences for the crime as if I committed the crime(s) myself.

President Bush and members of his Administration have committed crimes in the interests of and for control over Central-Asia and Mid-Eastern (Iraqi) oil production.
Do you understand the international implications of what I just said? Bush has put us in Dire Straights.

It's the duty of all American Citizens to take an active part in our governence and demand accountability for the conduct of elected officials.

"We the People" are directly responsible to the international community (definition of Democracy) for the consequences of 'Our President's" conduct.

"We the People" are unable to discover the 'Truth' about 9/11 (from a puppet agency, The 9/11 Commission).
We know there's insufficient evidence to implicate Al Qaeda and Osama Bin Laden in the attack.
We know Iraq "does not", I repeat, "Does Not" have WMD or CBW's, So no legal precedence existed justifying either of the invations of Afghanistan or of Iraq.

Under US Law, if you belong to any organized group and that group commits an immoral act or a crime against society, though the 'group' claims responsibility for the crime, the Government does not have Autority to charge every member of the group with the crime. The Governmnent can only prosecute the members they have evidence against.
This precedence is established in the courts with "Gang" related drug activity, robberies and homocides everyday.

So stop preaching your rediculus Patriotic American Values rhetoric and be an American by taking responsibility and correct the atrocities America is committing with Bush's "War on Terror".

Passive the founding fathers of America were true patriots. Anyone who is willing to fight and die for their country and the constitution is a true patriot to. But you’re right this whole it’s patriotic to support your president business is rubbish. I supported America to however I stopped when I realised how many illegal actions its president was making.
Seon, You do not stop suppoting America because a corrupt Administrator is running amuk.
Indeed, This is the time when it's most important to support "America", By contacting your Congressmen and Congresswomen and demand they act to represent your interests and carry on your will.
You Contact Mr. Bush, and tell him what he needs to do to rectifyu the errors 'He' made on your behalf.
You pay your taxes and contribute donations to the candidate that will rectify Mr. Bush's mistakes (Though I recognize his agenda is not a Mistake, biut a deliberate act of treason).
No Sir, if you do not "Support" America Now, There may not be an (the) America to support later.

I see your point. If I didn’t support America I’d just sit back and watch the latest episode of American idol (or in my case Australian) but I don’t I actually care about the direction America is heading towards and I don’t want that to happen.
Good Man. Persistence with clarity of vision and direction are all thats necessary to move a mountain. Debate the Issues publically with your adversaries, stress your points, explain your reasoning and recruit a determined management team to work with and half the battle is already won.
Voted : i love Bush he is the best prez America has ever had
he is the best president America has ever had!!!
