Of course they are. They don't want to be branded by that evil "R" word.

Voted : Yes, More people are racist than will admit While I suspected this, even I am taken aback by the degree of racism I see -- even on this site. Tony Snow asserted racism was no longer a problem -- a distant memory. He couldn't be more wrong. ^ would you be more likely to help in UK than in Darfur?

Voted : Yes, More people are racist than will admit This is a very good question and the example of Darfur is very relevant. I tried to get at that by asking if racism was partly to blame for the continuing genocide in Darfur ballot #93520 I certainly believe racism is probably the most significant factor why the genocide in Darfur continues. While most, but not all of the victims are Muslims they are all Black Africans. The Arab countries are suspiciously absent from doing anything significant to end it. Of course if Israel were doing it, you would never hear the end of it. All is not lost though. Those most active in the US in trying to stop it are mostly Jews and Christians. Blacks and Muslims are way behind. So, some people move beyond any racism. We saw the same in the US civil rights movement. People almost inherently have some bias towards those who look similar to them (unless they are blind!). Ignorance plays a factor as well. If there was no genocide there then how many people would even have heard of Sudan? I think having had direct experience (family or self having experienced genocide) or education on such matters can help. I'm really still astonished at how little people care about things like genocide, Cambodia, Uganda, Darfur unless they are happening to people like themselves. Everyone jumped to quick action when we had this issue with Bosnia, Serbia, etc. Makes you wonder doesn't it? Indeed, a very good question. As for USA becoming unilaterally involved, there are those of you who would find it to be bad, bad, bad. ^^Comment above: FFonLSD reminds us that in USA Jews and Christians are very active with Blacks and Muslims way behind (Darfur genocide). What is your plan of action? Talking, but not walking!

I like to think that it wouldn't make a difference to me, personally, where the problem was. It isn't the same. Yours is more general. BL... I have consistently and constantly to point of annoying most people here tried to encourage people to take action. I have made ballots about rallies, etc. There are websites on my page that will help you get involved. The genocide in Darfur is a moral outrage. To not act is tantamount to complicity. I'm in favor of the US or some other country(s) taking action as long as they are capable of ending it. Voted : I'll explain below I don't see it as racism, more as unenlightened self-interest. As human beings, we tend to do what suits our own best interests, and only a select few are able to transcend that realm of thinking and act for the greater good. Tony Snow...he can assert my foot up his a$$. Sorry, *in*sert... Voted : Yes, More people are racist than will admit It still exists. Voted : Yes, More people are racist than will admit Yes. It's amazing how many supposedly tolerant liberals are willing to let all these black folk die, when they were up in arms about a handful of serbians being massacred. Where are all the other countries when it comes to stopping a genocide like this? Why does everyone expect the US and the UK to take action? When we do step in, we're accused of trying to be the policeman of the world. Where is Russia, or China, or France, or Brazil? Why doesn't anyone else ever step up to the plate? China has oil interests, Russia is too busy killing Chechens, France is worthless and no one else seems to care. Some of the black African countries do, but they (the peacekeeping force) are being kicked out by the Arab leader of Sudan. "when they were up in arms about a handful of serbians being massacred" 100,000+ are handful? so what would you call 6 million jews dying in concentration camps, a bad picnic? Voted : Yes, More people are racist than will admit Unfortunately... i think we should just repect that Africa American are people and they have the same things as we do.
