what if :

ETHICIST DR. BRUCE WEINSTEIN, SAYS: "DO WHAT'S RIGHT BECAUSE IT'S RIGHT."

[+] serious ballot by contragrain
ACTIVE Mon Sep 10, 07 - Tue Sep 09, 08

Dr. Weinstein gives seminars across the country on ethics. He says doing the right thing is always the right thing, even if it doesn't pay off. He acknowledges that there are payoffs; but says they should never be the primary motivation.

Think about this.

Do you agree?
If you agree in principle, do you actively pursue this philosophy, and back it up with action?
Do you think that society as a whole already knows and practices this principle? In other words, is his message relevant?

The message is relevant and necessary. I practice it all the time.
The message is relevant and necessary. I sometimes practice it.
The message is relevant and necessary; but, I rarely practice it.
The message is idealistic and absurd, nobody will ever do this.
The message is idealistic and absurd, only a few practice it.
The message is idealistic and absurd; but, lots of suckers will be drawn in only to be victimized.

It's a jungle out there, but it would be worse without any ethics.

example: Lots of folks give to charity for the tax break it offers. Giving to charity is the right thing to do. But, how many would continue to do so without the tax break? And if you wouldn't give, except for the tax break, can it truly be called charity? New ballot forthcoming on this topic.

And doing so has cost me a great many things, from a job to a relationship. And I'll continue doing so until I die.
