Voted : about 4.54 billion year old This is scientists best guess at it, according to Wikipedia. I put no less than 3 billion years as a conservative estimate as the ages vary from place to place. Hope that clears things up a little

Voted : about 4.54 billion year old good cartoon - about sums it up oh and my reasoning is that lots of people have been trying to figure this out for long time - they have accumulated extensive data that supports this theory and it is generally accepted by people who have done the research and studied the methods and procedures for drawing these conclusions. yeah we'll never really know for sure but i think the scientific method has a lot going for it. Some of those "theories" have produced spectacular tangible results. Must be on to SOMETHING.

This 6000 year figure isn't a creationist theme . It's just been picked up by the creationists along with many other random theories. Wasn't it bishop usher? (ive checked now and im right - go me )who worked out the figures from direct lineage from adam and eve based on rough approximation of generations? Complete nutter but not, technically, a modern creationist, so therefore this is church doctrine and not creationist theory. The earth is pretty old and any number more than a billion is meaningless anyway. but 6000 years? lol I'm pretty sure they've carbon dated ancient human shit that was older than 6k years.
