Side effects may be rare or common, serious or merely annoying. A medicine with frequent mild side effects may be tolerated by the majority of people and be regarded as relatively safe.

On the other hand if a medicine has a less common but more serious side effect it can mean that the medicine should only be used when there is no alternative, and then with close monitoring.

What are some of the worst side effects to have from taking medications?

Loose stools

Hair loss

Nausea and vomiting

Gynecomastia (man boobs)

Death from asthmatic asphysixation

muscle cramping

addiction

An erection lasting 4 hours

Toxic feeling

There is an asthma medication that states that people who cannot tolerate this asthma medication might die from an acute asthma attack! The medication actually says that people who do not get side effects tolerate this medication!! What a bunch of double talk. Well, of course--if you don't get he side effects, you don't get them!

Most soporifics are addictive
A lot of painkillers can lead to addiction
Most mood heightners are (used to be at any rate) addictive.

Oddly though you would assume cannabis to be a soporific it is actually classed by the british medical association as a expectorant. i.e. it makes you cough.
