[+] serious ballot by OasisDesertStar

I, for one, love rock 'n' roll music, as well as R&B, classic soul and reggae. I also like a little bit of country, jazz, gospel, Middle Eastern music (the kind that belly dancers move to), Spanish guitar and Indian (sitar) music.

Mine was a very music-minded household; my father (may God rest his soul) enjoyed classical music, Broadway show tunes, and a bit of easy listening music--I mean, he loved almost all kinds of music, from Frank Sinatra to the Grateful Dead; from show tunes like "Oh, Calcutta!" to Neil Diamond. However, he didn't care for the hard rock and heavy metal I loved to listen to sometimes, depending largely on my mood of the moment.

And as for my mother, she was born and raised in the South, so she and her 8 siblings grew up mostly on country musicm with a little bit of gospel thrown in for good measure.

For a long time, I've been dissed and bad-mouthed for my personal choices and tastes by my so-called "own people", though there had been a handful of others of my race who were into rock. On my turf, some of them gushed with praise for groups and artists like Led Zeppelin, AC/DC, The Doors, KISS, Aerosmith...hey, just because WE like rock doesn't make us "Oreos".

So, when I say "my people", I don't mean all blacks necessarily; "my people are those human beings dedicated to wiping out racism in all its ugly forms.

Now, I'm waiting for your responses...why do YOU, any black person, hate what you like to call "white boys' noise"?

I just don't get it.
I just don't like it, it's not my style.
I hate it because I just hate all whites.
Many/Most Blacks like rock
They like music with a primitive jungle beat
Not all of them hate it

Black artists are the origin of rock music. Rock can be traced back to R&B, Blues, and even Gospel music (that your mother liked so much). I mean, seriously: Chuck Berry is sometimes defined as the father of rock and roll, and rock is a direct derivative of rock and roll. I think what you really need to do is rethink your question. "those human beings dedicated to wiping out racism in all its ugly forms". Well, one form of racism is simply discrimination based on race and/or ethnicity. You are stereotyping when you ask "any black person" to answer your question. Why aren't you asking why Mexican's prefer Salsa dancing music or why Jews prefer punk? Or how about you stop being a hypocrite and ask why ANYBODY would not like rock music? I'm sorry that you're a racist. I hope you get better. Oh, and if you believe in God, you're--you're wrong.

Can't answer this, because I'm a Black man who's listening to "In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida" as he types.

Can you say "Jimi Hendrix"?
As for why this phenomenon exists, best thing I can suggest ids that it's a generational/locational thing. Everyone I know in my generation prefers rock. Everyone I know in the following generation prefers hip-hop. It's just what the radio was tossing out at the time. As for locational, I was blessed enough to grow up in earshot of the two greatest MOR (middle-of-the-road)stations in Creation. I got everything from the Ohio Players to Charlie Daniels.
Don't be so general.
Chuck Berry, Little Richard & Jimi Hendrix
Oasis, rock and roll has its roots in Black music, and there is a whole volume of "crossover" music which fuses rock and soul.

As we move forward in time, all those labels and distinctions we make based on race will melt away. With or without racists.

Phil Lynott from Thin Lizzy was black, too.
I know its off topic, but Im guessing most people would spend time with a muslim than that twat IslamHater...

... just a thought.

I don't think most blacks hate rock, they just don't like it. I believe the fraction of the white population that hates rap is larger than the fraction of blacks who hate rock.
because they dont wear golds in their mouth and their pants down to there knees and look like a bunch of thugs
Word.
I think it has more to do with what you grew up with, rather than color of your skin.

I've been in Rock bands with black people.
Rock began with blacks. Hendrix, Berrie, Little Richard. I think that most black people (and people of other races) don't like the heavy metal stuff. It just doesn't sound like music. You can't dance to it, you can't make love to it, and it jangles your nerves. I think it's the same for a lot of annoying rap music. Some music just doesn't do it for some folks. Personal choice, Friend. People tend to shy away from music that says nothing, and evokes no feeling.

"Janis Joplin Fan".

Maybe because everytime blacks create some kind of music this time being rock the whites steal it. Rap is next.
I do like rock, or did. we were the people who created it in the first place. I just like rock today, because its very... white? i couldnt think of any other way to put it...
well, im a 13 year old Black girl and i love rock and metal. Its basically my life. Sure, majority of Blacks dislike rock or anything with fast guitar riffs and drums with screaming blended in with the noise. And there's actually more Blacks who like Rock more than you think. So, you really can't say why black people hate rock music but, why do majority of black people hate it. And most of them dont hate it, its just not their style.
Voted : Not all of them hate it
I am white but i dont see why we some of us hate black people... What harm do they ever do to us? they dont bomb us or anything... they mix with our culture... and most of them are cristian!
rock is gay
I love rock music and Im black! I love all music except country. I listen to heavy metal and everything.
THE SAME REASON WHTIE PEOPLE HATE RAP MUSIC! Duh! It doesn't appeal to them.
