Legislation now under consideration in California would add lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people to the lengthy list of social and ethnic groups that schools must include in social studies lessons.

Supporters contend that requiring instruction about gays in history would correct an obvious gap in the state's existing social studies framework and curb anti-gay stereotypes that make gay youth vulnerable to bullying and suicide.

California law already requires schools to teach about women, African Americans, Mexican Americans, entrepreneurs, Asian Americans, European Americans, American Indians and labor. The Legislature over the years also has prescribed specific lessons about the Irish potato famine and the Holocaust, among other topics.

Whom had sex with whom is not an edifying historical category. California historical educators would then also have to specify the "supposed" heterosexuality of all historical figures that were not specifically known to be gay, and they really might not know. What a can of peas would be opened by gays in insisting that textbooks address President Lincoln's love letters to his male fiends.

^fiends should be friends.

What the hell is gay history? History about happy people? History about homosexuals goes as far back as, well, history. What nonsense. Isn't it already a topic in sex ed?
I don't know how they plan on doing it, maybe just identify a person as being gay who did something historically noteworthy

This might bnecme a psot mpertrem, incvasion of the rights of some gftasysd nmopt, tp be espose3d.
This might become a post mortem invasion of the privacy of some deceased gays who never wanted their gayness to become public knowledge. Also, a lot of false assumptions might wind up being made as to the gayness of historical people who can never say they were not gay, such as Abraham Lincoln and Emily Bronte.

Homosexuality is an important enough social issue that it should not be excluded from a curriculum devoted to the study of (American) society.
defining your sexual habit as another group is just silly.

i think what happens in bed, should stay in bed.

it goes the same for heteros too.

I agree with what Forgetmenot and LCD said.
Forgetmenot, we used to have savage disagreements, but I've noticed that there's a lot more we agree on than not.

i think that people can do as they please but should leave the children out of it. I dont think kids should be taught about gays at least not in school. Its more of a personaly issue that shuld be disscussed between kids and parents. If its that bad about kids getting bullied they should have support groups for them but not expose other kids to that life style. With that said if one of my sons was to go that route i will all ways love them but would like it better if they stick with women
