Why is American football called football when you don't use your feet other than for punts, field goals and PATs? Why isn't it called 'throwball' or 'runwithball'?

If you don't like football, it doesn't bother us unduly. Stick to your own parochial sports. You'll never know the excitement of international competition; all you can do is play sports with yourself, Canada and Cuba. Woo-hoo.
