No. Kerry would have had half a dozen friends round to the White House, a few bottles of half decent wine and a buffet of sandwiches with jelly and ice-cream for afters. Silly party games and the best of Abba on the CD player. Cost: $215.

I guess we will never find that out !! He might have, why not? If Bush did, who is to say he wouldn't have? Nope, he had a mock inauguration in his studio aprtment in Compton on the 20th. It cost $28. I think he would have had an expensive lavish party as well. Is 40 million a conservative amount to spend on parties when your nation is at war and in a growing deficit? Nope his wife would have. ^ Agreed

Clinton spent $41M on his 1997 inauguration festivities. When adjusted for inflation, that's approx. $49M in 2005 dollars. Let's not forget the number of cars Kerry owns. Oh, and his lavish - what is it worth, $6M? - mansion. Oh yes, and how Teresa paid an effective 15% in income tax in 2003. She didn't do anything illegal, mind you, but that's pretty damned materialistic for people so concerned with monetary welfare. So the answer to your question is NO, he would NOT have spent $40M on his inauguration. He would have spent MORE. I'm BAAAAAACK!
