Bonjour, mon ami! Je m'appelle babblinglunatic! My Motto is "Trotsky good. Stalin bad."
Here he grieves, hereafter he grieves; the evil-doer grieves in both existences. He grieves and he suffers anguish when he sees the depravity of his own deeds. (Dhammapada, v 15) One should not consider the faults of others, nor their doing or not doing good or bad deeds. One should only consider whether one has done or not done good or bad deeds. (Dhammapada, v 50) An evil deed does not immediately bear fruit, just as the newly-drawn milk does not curdle at once; but it follows the fool, burning him like live coal covered with ashes. (Dhammapada, v 71) The man of wisdom should admonish others; he should give advice and should prevent others from doing wrong; such a man is held dear by the good; he is disliked only by the bad. (Dhammapada, v 77) As a mountain of rock is unshaken by wind, so also, the wise are unperturbed by blame or by praise. (Dhammapada, v 81) Not in the sky, nor in the middle of the ocean, nor in the cave of a mountain, nor anywhere else, is there a place, where one may escape from the consequences of an evil deed. (Dhammapada, v 127) All are afraid of the stick, all fear death. Putting oneself in another’s place, one should not beat or kill others. (Dhammapada, v. 129) Whatsoever is of a nature to arise, all that is of a nature to cease. (The Book of the Kindred Saying IV, p. 66) Conquest begets enmity; the conquered live in misery; the peaceful live happily having renounced conquest and defeat. (Dhammapada, v. 201) Attachment (to sensual pleasures) begets sorrow, attachment begets fear. For him who is free from atachment there is no sorrow; how can there be fear for him? (Dhammapada, v. 214) Conquer the angry one by not getting angry ; conquer the wicked by goodness; conquer the stingy by generosity, and the liar by speaking the truth. (Dhammapada, v. 223} A fool who thinks that he is a fool is for that very reason a wise man. The fool who thinks that he is wise is called a fool indeed. (Dhammapada, v. 63). The friend who’s ever seeking what to take, The friend whose words are other than his deeds, The friend who flatters, pleasing you withal. The boon companion down the errant ways: These four are foes. Thus having recognized, Let the wise man avoid them from afar As they were path of peril and of dread. (Dialogues of the Buddha III. p. 178) Not covetous, with heart of malice void, A man should dwell, with concentrated mind, With mind one-poined, in the self controlled. (The Book of the Gradual Sayings II, p. 32 If anyone, (although) being able, does not support his mother or father when they are old and past their youth, that is the cause of the unsuccessful (man). (Suttanipata, v. 98). Hatreds never cease by hatreds in this world. By love alone they cease. This is an ancient Law. (Dhammapada, v. 5) That deed is not well done which, being done, one afterwards repents, and the fruit whereof one reaps weeping, with tearful face. (Dhammapada, v. 67) The good give up (attachment for) everything; the saintly prattle not with sensual craving: whether affected by happiness or by pain, the wise show neither elation nor depression. (Dhammapada, v. 83) The fools of little wit move about with the very self as their own foe, doing evil deeds the fruit whereof is bitter. (Dhammapada, v. 66) “The past should not be followed after, the future not desired. What is past is got rid of and the future has not come. But whoever has vision now here, now there, of a present thing, Knowing that it is immovable, unshakable, let him cultivate it. Swelter at the task this everyday. Who knows whether he will die tomorrow? There is no bargaining with the great hosts of Death. Thus abiding ardently, unwearied day and night, He indeed is “Auspicious” called, described as a sage at peace.” (The Collection of the Middle Length Sayings III, p. 233)
