title : Is it dangerous to lose 3 pounds in a day?
dated : 10:31am Jul 16, 2008
I've started a new eating plan - I'm 6'2" currently about 260, and trying to get down to 200. Well, I read somewhere that if you eat the amount of calories required to maintain your target, you will eventually get down to that. In my case, this is about 2500 calories per day. So I tried this starting yesterday, and I have already lost 3 pounds. But I have also heard that you're not supposed to lose more than two pounds a week, or you'll have problems. Any input?

maybe it's just water... Sometimes you can lose a lot in one day especially at the beginning of a diet - usually that's simply losing water retention... Over a period of one week, that will probably even out.
The healthiest way that I have heard to lose weight is to always eat breakfast, reduce your calories as you are doing, especially reduce your fat intake, eat lots of fruit and vegetables (the kind you like), and exercise - something as simple as walking 15 minutes more a day. One of my friends said that learning to eat slowly and being conscious of when she was full - so once she was full, she stopped eating, but allowed herself to eat whenever she was hungry - that really made the difference for her, she lost over 80 pounds in one year, and kept it off. It was a question of stopping the cycle of starving/binging... |

yeah, that's just the water weight when you reduced the foods, you also reduced the salt intake, and that allows the body to lose lots of water. if you continue to lose that amount each day I would worry about it, but I doubt that's going to happen.
so filling up on steam veges eh? I am on a similar boat :) |

I think it's water loss, too I go to a Weight Watchers class and our leader tells us you can only lose about 1.5 pounds of FAT per week. PER WEEK. She says if it is much more than that, it is water loss. She says you also cannot gain more than 1.5 pounds of FAT per week. She says if your salt intake is off, or if you lack sleep, or you do not drink enough, you can gain as much as 10 pounds in water weight in a week. She says if you feel bloated, drinking will cause the excess water to mobilize and you can lose the water weight this way.
