Which is why affirmative action is unnecessary.

Competitive companies will hire those most able to do the job (black, white, male, female, gay, straight, whatever) without concern for trivial physical characteristics (unless those are necessary, such as for a character in a movie or something along those lines).

Companies that do not do this, that hire based on insignificant factors such as skin color will be less competitive and will ultimately lose out.

Capitalism is great for doing away with discrimination. Ultimately everyone is valued based on their abilities and nothing else.

Also, I think this is a problem that is holding back many arab and african nations, they do not recognize women as people. They deny them education and basically keep them as cattle. So about half their population is not being used to anywhere near their full potential.

Racial and gender equality in the west, while not quite perfect, are pretty damn good, and I think this is one of the things that gives us an edge on the rest of the world. WHile they may have more people, we're getting more use out of the ones we have.
