The basis of this is that if a Black person for example refers to themselves with the N word then they are doing it to reclaim the derogatary nature of the word. by saying it themselves it lessens the word's impact. SOURCE: I'm Black British
I always find it interesting that many think the only person capable of determining what is racist is NOT the person to whom it is directed.
By the new definition of racism, yes that is correct. By the actual definition, no. Now it is acceptable for blacks, even prominent ones, to refer to others as honkey, cracker, kike, white devil and the like and for some reason this is not racist.

In American YES! I've never heard of a non-white person EVER being called a racist no matter what they say. The racist label is applied EXCLUSIVELY to white people in America.
"The basis of this is that if a Black person for example refers to themselves with the N word then they are doing it to reclaim the derogatary nature of the word. by saying it themselves it lessens the word's impact. SOURCE: I'm Black British" Two things struck me instantly when reading the above comment. 1) This could not be more in line with the liberal propganda of the day, it could almost be a word for word copy of any liberal dogma regularly found in the Guardian or Trevor Phillips' diary. Black people dont use the word nigger to "lessen" its impact, the ones who use it use it because they are ignorant, ill bred, and have no idea of the past of their culture or origins. When do you ever hear elderly black folk use that word? They dont, because its offensive to them, and a throwbak to the days of slavery. Dont believe the hype. 2) Quoting your ethnic origin as your "source" is actually rather racist. Can only black people discuss racist slang and its implications then? You are an instant authority ojn the matter because of your skin colour? Give me a break. Rant over.

It sounds less bad if bald people tell bald jokes, or fat people tell fat jokes, or minorities use certain words. Otherwise, hateful intentions seem like the motive.
If it is popular for blacks to be referring to each other as 'niggers', maybe whites should start referring to each other as gringos? And then when it becomes popular, and blacks or some other group try and use that word on whites, the whites should reply with overly exaggerated anger and offense and say 'You can't say that! You can only use that word it you are white!!' It has once been said that if you mirror back a stupid thing to the person or group who does it, they may be likely to empathise that it really is stupid when they have experienced it done back to them.

I agree that that is how it is. However, I don't agree that that is how it should be. Only because it is silly.

No a racial slur is a racial slur no matter who uses it.To say that certain groups can use certain lanuage is itself a form of racism.
Conversely, according to the rightwing way of thinking, it isn't racist if it's a white person who says it. The racist is the person who criticizes the white person who used the racial slur. Because, according to conservative PC, rightwingers are never racists, and never have been, ever.
^Well according to liberals non-whites can't be racist even if it is minority a calling minority b a slur. But ofcourse according to the dogma of liberalism white men are the root of all evil.Especially white men from Texas right cranky?
^I disagree with sentence one and two, but give hearty support to the truth of sentence three.

Its racist if a black person uses it to. Racist to me means someone who believes in races. I don’t I believe all human beings are one race.

Derogatory words derived from prejudice are racist, no matter who uses them. Some people are ignorant enough to address a person of their race with racist words, and then call foul when it comes from the mouth of a person from another race. Personally, I think that if you don't want to hear the word, don't keep it alive by repeating it umpteen times a day and act like it's okay..!

The same goes for "hate crimes", segregation and preferrential treatment.
It's not alright no matter who's saying it. Period. It just keeps the idea in people's minds that were different because of stupid shit like skin color or where our families are from. Fuck all racists regardless of their skin color. I'll knock any racist the fuck out. Black. White. Whatever.
No, I don't think so. I think other races are as racist as the white race. For example, the Hispanics think that they are blessed with white skin and blue eyes. They feel that their children will grow up looking white. A black person thinks he is an American and looks down on forgieners. Hey, we all need someone to look down on, don'twe?
