Eric Clapton Hands Down!
I can think of quite a few. Many have already been mentioned in your ballot. It's not like I'm picking on him--his technical skill is very good, but I have to throw Angus Young in the mix.

I think there are 2 aspects that need to be taken into consideration: 1) technical skills, 2) ability to make great music.
I have the impression some of you might put too much emphasis on the 1st aspect, which is an important one, but certanly not the most important. Just remember Yngwie Malmsteen: awesome skills, crappy music.
So i dont agree one bit with grapost on this particular choice. For me Eric is one of the greats, "slowhand" or not.

I don't care what anyone says, Kurt Cobain is the most overrated guitarist ever. Horrible musician with little or no talent on guitar.

I heard someone once say Joe Perry was overrated... Joe Perry is not the greatest guitarist of all time but his insightful robust riffs and blues bending chords have always enspired me!!!!
okay..with careful consideration it was between(for me anyway,)eric clapton and kurt cocain,but went kurt on the poll.that's not to say clapton's not good or better.but he's not the genius that so many used to make him out.(i don't know if he's actually rated that highly anymore anyway..)i think 8 years ago on back he was more highly praised media wise than he is today. in fact i rarely even read about him anywhere much anymore.but then again i don't buy the music mags anymore.i'm into the killers and evanescence anyways.
