LIES THAT OUR GOVERNMENT TELL

[+] serious ballot by LCD
created Mon Aug 07, 06

truth are finally coming out of the trial of Iraq rape-slaying.

The U.S. military had previously referred to the alleged rape victim as a "young Iraqi woman." A Justice Department affidavit in the case against Green says investigators estimated her age at about 25, while the U.S. military said she was 20.

turns out she was a 14 year old.

I don't know whether there will be any inquest to determine who decided to leak fake information, but do you think it's OK for our government to lie, expecially concerning crimes perpetuated by our soldiers?

it used to be called "accessory after the fact" and it used to be a criminal offense - but under Mr. Bush, rights and wrongs doesn't really seem to matter.

it's ok to lie in war
let's prosecute the liars

Truth is the first casualty in war. You should know that with the pro-Hezbollah photoshopped stuff that Reuters printed.

So, in your mind it's okay for the pro-Israeli U.S. to lie about the raping of a girl, but wrong for an anti-Israeli rogue at Reuters to doctor a photo.

Interesting.

Can't we castrate thaem first? Oh, sorry. Due process and all that crap. A shame that that little girl didn't get the same- oh, right. She wasn't a criminal.

I think you are confusing Iraq with Israel cranky. There are two separate conflicts going on. However, any chance for you to put in a shot at Israel and the US is good enough for you.

Hey, cracky! get your facts straight. At least ask your bud about it before you show you ace.

Nobody leaked false information there was just confusion after the incident took place.

The soldiers are innocent...until proven guilty.

If you don't understand that, then you are the one telling the lies.

You say the Justice Department "estimated", while the U.S. military "said." I'm not really up-to-date on this, but what I take you to mean is that the Justice Department made a guess as to her age (which, by my book, means they couldn't, or at least shouldn't, be called liars) while the military stated her age as fact.

I'm asking for some clarification; did the Justice Department actually "estimate," and did the U.S. military actually "say." If so, by all means, let's prosecute the liars.

Seems an awfully vague story here LCD.

Fist off it says they estimated. Which I take it to mean they looked at the girl and took a wild guess (not all countries are lucky enough to have the accurate birth records we take for granted). And given the enviroment and lifestyle it's easy to assume a teenager could look much older than she is.

Second, they didn't try to claim the crime never happened, they merely got one of the details wrong. Are you saying it would be a different crime if she were 20? Does that one detail alter the entire case, or in the long run, is it rather trivial? If they'd said she had blue eyes and it turns out they were brown, would they be evidence of a massive government conspiracy to silence the truth, or more likely a simple mistake, soon corrected and not that important anyway?

Third, you have no source here, so the entire article is suspect as you've written it yourself. Ask yourself, would you accept such a story from a rightwinger on this site on such flimsy evidence? Obviously not, please don't use double standards. Give the link to the original, unedited, story so we can check it out ourselves.

Fourth, it's hardly an 'accessory' when you acknowledge that the crime occured and do nothing to prevent the trial from going on, nor do you prevent the suspects from being captured. It seems you've turned a clerical error in to a massive conspiracy running through the entire government. A little objectivity here please.

Fifth, aren't these men innocent until proven guilty? Or does that standard not apply to soldiers? Seems like an 'alleged rape' (to use your own words) is just that, alleged. It may very well have happened, but shouldn't you wait for the trial to condemn these men, and the entire united states government, for something that possibly never occured? Or is a 5 year discrepency that big of a deal to you?
