I'd say it depend son the topic.

If someone posts a ballot asking whether Lieberman or Lamont will win the 8/8/06 Connecticut primary for Senator, it will have little appeal beyond today.

Conversely, timeless questions such as "Who has the best singing voice ..."

It is rather funny to see some "who are you going to vote for president in 2004" ballots still active. There ought to be a way to close some. Some ballots can and should have a long span if they are relevant questions/ballots.

It would be good to see ballots appear on the main list when they have been commented on, kind of like bringing them back to the attention of others, once they go from the main page they are usually forgotten which is such a shame.
