IS IT TRAINING THAT MAKES US SF SO MUCH BETTER THAN BRITISH SAS?

[+] serious ballot by jappy
ACTIVE Thu Aug 10, 06 - Tue May 05, 09

It's widely known that the British SAS are far and away outmatched when compared to the United States counterparts, such as Navy Seals, Army Green Berets and Rangers, Marine Recon, and others.

What is it that makes the United States Special Forces that much better?

Better training
Better morals
Better food
Better equipment

COMMENTS:
Erm where is it known?

The British soldier is known to be better than any American trained soldier, hence the reputations of both in Iraq.

Yes, I'd like to know where it's known, too.
by mojo on Thu Aug 10, 06 8:56am [+]

mojo you know very little about the military, it's okay hon, you can't possibly expect to know about what you don't understand :)
by jappy on Thu Aug 10, 06 9:04am [+]

I think Jappys deliberately baiting us here...
by lil_ape on Thu Aug 10, 06 9:26am [+]

I don't know jappy the SAS is probably better trained than any of the U.S SF teams. In the past U.S SF have suffered heavy causalities in combat (Delta Force in Iran,Seals in Africa etc)where as the SAS have rarely seen such losses. Also you have to remember that the SAS where the ones who help found and train the U.S SF after WW2.
by Corrupt on Thu Aug 10, 06 9:28am [+]

Jappy. Please don't sink to the level of personal insults. It's so unbecoming.

YOU know very little about ME, "hon". My father is a West Point graduate, a colonel in the U.S. Air Force, career military, and a war hero to boot, with medals and shrapnel in his body to show for it. I grew up on military bases throughout my childhood. My father worked at the Pentagon for 8 years. Many of my family's oldest friends are famous military figures, including a four-star general who served as head of NATO for four years. I was seated next to this gentleman at a West Point reunion function a few months ago, and believe me, we weren't talking about lipstick and nail polish shades.

I don't appreciate your lack of respect. Neither does my father, and neither would any of the classmates in his West Point class who know our family.
by mojo on Thu Aug 10, 06 9:38am [+]

Jappy, do you have too much time on your hands over there...in "Iraq." This ballot is just meant to create hostility and the way you talked down to Mojo is way out of line.

As for your assertion that "Its widely known that the British SAS are far and away outmatched when compared to the United States counterparts...." Really? Maybe its "known" only in your head.

There's enough tension without you creating more just for fun.

Jappy:

You were out of line with Mojo. Save your condescending insults for the loudmouths, like me.
by cranky on Thu Aug 10, 06 11:14am [+]

Now, now ... let's give jappy a break. After all, he can't possibly expect to know about what he doesn't understand wink
by Cathexis on Thu Aug 10, 06 11:39am [+]

As for the condescending dismissal ... I think jappy may never have really recovered from the blow of women's suffrage. wink

But, what you need is some company! Oh, Grapost ... !
by Cathexis on Thu Aug 10, 06 11:44am [+]

Ohhhhhh Patch, your mouth is so full of crow and you refuse to even admit it?

Answer this question, do you still think I'm not in Iraq? Have you even bothered looking at my user picture?

Please choose your answer carefully, you have made yourself look very foolish on two ballots along with that very childish friend of yours or brother or whoever he is, so you may want to use your brain here, I know you are smart, when answering the question I've posed for you :)
by jappy on Fri Aug 11, 06 12:52am [+]

And as far as you mojo, if you can't take tongue in cheek backhanded comments, don't hand them out then dear. And that goes for your little buddy Jyl too :) Being an army brat doesn't make one educated about the intricacies of special forces training.

And good God, let mojo fight her own battles, some of you hosers are so pussy wipped on this website that I'd swear you think you are dating some of the women on here haha. mojo is intelligent and articulate and I think she can handle a little friendly banter.
by jappy on Fri Aug 11, 06 12:57am [+]

To quote Dr. Fonz:

Pot, kettle anyone?

First, this was labeled a *serious* ballot, jappy.

Second, you're a fine one to talk. You've got a chip on your shoulder the size of the Mariana Trench when it comes to criticism of YOU.

And obviously, your comment clearly wasn't 'tongue in cheek' because of what followed: 'Being an army brat doesn't make one educated about the intricacies of special forces training.'

You don't know me, Jappy. I have a sense of humor and I try to respect people too. I've tried to be your friend for months. I've made nice ballots about you and your wife, I give you good karma, and I've expressed concern for your situation overseas on many occasions.

You went too far yesterday. You were talking about something YOU know nothing about: me.

I will remain courteous and respectful toward you, but in the future I will avoid this kind of ballot like the plague.

Have a nice day, dear.

I did label this ballot as serious because I believe it is true. When I said 'tongue in cheek' I meant the comment not the ballot, what amazes me is this immediate rush to aid that people think they need to do, as though you need help from everyone, if I were you I'd be insulted by it. I didn't mean for my first comment to sound insulting, I apologize if you thought it did. If you are an expert in special forces training and the individualistic strengths that each force has then again I apologize.

Now, my reasoning for this ballot. I believe that the US Army Rangers are the best in the world at going behind enemy lines to set up a forward operating base within enemy territory, as in, an airport, which is their true strength.

I believe that the US Navy Seals are the best in the world at extraction of personnel or items from behind enemy lines and also the masters of destruction in the use of underwater demolitions on the coasts.

I believe that the Army Green Berets are tops at infiltrating rebel forces and training them to be competent fighting armies (although not always for the right cause, unfortunately).

I do give the SAS kudos though for one thing especially, taking out terrorists and others who are involved in hostage situations, their tactics are truly amazing in that respect. Thankfully they haven't had to use their training too much, but they are ready for it.

These are MY opinions on it, the 'widely known' was in response to a particularly crappy ballot without justification about how 'bad' the USA special forces are for their losses in Iraq, when you can't justify that conclusion because it's totally apples and oranges, no one else really runs the sheer volume of SF operations here like the US does.

And yes, I realize, from the first airborne units who became rangers after WWII to the Underwater Demolition Teams that later because the SEALS, the British served a huge part in training them :) I hope that settles things.

Proceed to bash me... now: :)

Okay, I just want to respond to this. I'm not nearly as annoyed about upfront criticism as I am about those who pretend to be all nice up front while being venomous in private, backstabbing and awarding karma for comments that trash me and awarding karma to users who are extremely poisonous as far as their input to this site *dung ESPECIALLY* while talking all nicey nicey in the open as though they are so wonderful. I'm not aiming this at any person, but I have known for some time about this going on, and I think it's really disgusting. For all his inadequacies and disgusting behavior, at least DUNG does it out front and in the open, maybe the only admirable thing about him considering.

Again, I'm not going to get into any poo flinging contest about this, I'm just answering your 'chip' on my shoulder comment, I've been working hard to whittle it away, which is why you won't see me swearing away much anymore, there isn't a point for it, in arguments I'm trying to take a higher ground, even when people do really despicable things in private like that :)

Take care all!

Whatever else you may think, Jappy, I HAVE been concerned about you over there in Iraq, and I DO think you have a lovely looking wife. mojo_peace
by mojo on Fri Aug 11, 06 5:56am [+]

Thank you, you are also a beautiful woman and I mean when I say that you are intelligent and witty. Take care.
by jappy on Fri Aug 11, 06 6:14am [+]

oh, and my wife is way nicer than I am, blah, I have to admit that too. I'm sure it won't be too long after I get home that I begin to receive the "You need to stop NOW" look when I'm getting irritated with something or someone and going overboard, which is usually when she's watching me online heh. I'm really a mellow guy IRL. Well, she may not agree with that, who knows.

I don't know how I got so lucky.
by jappy on Fri Aug 11, 06 6:16am [+]

They are aprox. of the same ability. However, what determines success is usually dependent upon the Situation and then the Mission which then determines how the Execution is to take place.

I PERSONALLY rank the SAS better than Delta and the SBS superior to the Navy Seals, kinda like how your personal opinion is that the US SF are the best in the world, the only difference is that mine is what i think whilst you try and pass yours off as gospel. However the SAS and SBS are widely regarded as the finest and best-trained special forces units in the world, you are entitled to your own opinion but next time i suggest you mention that it is your own opinion rather than saying it is a "widely known" fact which may not be true.

Jappy i'd suggest smoe good reading for you "midnight in some burning village"...The US sf are great and very well trained but when you compare combat record, delta forces massively blundered first forray into Afghan so well known the DOD even filmed it for prosperity...i'd say you have no solid grounds to base that on. You see the video clip of British SBS taking the fight to the Taliban in Afghan?? it was all over the international tv and press media...as US delta force stood way back calling in a chopper for extraction..up on the ramparts our boys were letting them have it. Its even on youtube now ..type British SBS and look for the clip of them in Afghan. Thats what our boys are made of. And as for you being in the military i'd seriously doubt it you run your mouth off way way too much.More like a child in frustration witha desperate want fo people to say his SF are the best. Its sadly a bit......stupid really and very unprofessional.
