These professionals THWARTED a major terror plan which might have killed as many people as were killed on 9/11. NINE PLANES full of innocent British and American citizens. I'd say British Intelligence did a very good job in this instance. I can't say the same for the CIA / FBI in the pre-9/11 months.

Because of our arrogant and weak government letting Islamic fundamentalists onto our shores and not having the balls to stand up to the human rights lobby and send them back home when they start causing trouble in case they get persecuted.
I know some people won't like this response, but I think the US actually does a better job of integrating immigrants. It is a nation that is basically comprised almost entirely of immigrants (Native American tribes excepted).

You certainly have your fair share of ethnic unrest. Your country also subdued with force, half of Africa and the rest of the world. They certainly did their fair share of crimes and brutality toward Africans and others. You can point out London as your shining example, but practically every city of any size is tremendously diverse, whether, Irish, Polish, Cuban, Mexican, Chinese or any immigrants from other countries. People aren't forced into a nanny society (where doing nothing is comfortable or at least tolerable) and as a result HAVE to work to make it in society. Entrepreneurship is what drives the American economy and immigrants engage in this fully. It helps greatly with rapid assimilation. Compare it to the other extreme - France.
People aren't being lynched anymore in the USA either. You are talking ancient history with the other stuff. In case you didn't notice, a black has been mayor of America's largest city (and other large ones). Other minorities have done so as well, Los Angeles is one. The last two people who have served as Secretary of State are black. What significant position in government has any minority in your country held? Certainly not at as high a level as in the US. Have you had a person whose parents immigrated from India or Pakistan serve as foreign minister? I think NOT.
Ask a Briton, where wouldhe rather live,in the UK orin the US... a huge majority will pick the UK.
I'm not sure it would be so clear cut the other way around.
As to which country is the most immigrant friendly,Britain has been taking people from all over the world for a thousand years,we are a nation of mongrels, who assimilate and diversify, hence our gene pool is strong and we dont have to rely on marrying our cousins.

I blame the channal tunnel and the fact that the French make no attempt in helping us stop illigel immigrants entering the country, it's not their problem if they conveniently manage to slip past their border unnoticed, is it?
