COMMENTS:
It wasn't all peaceful. Sure, watch some Hollywood movie and it makes it look like that. There was a great deal of violence and bloodshed. Ghandi took a different apporach. The British Empire was also stretched thin at the time so circumstances helped Ghandi.
Tom, don't bring facts into this! That will screw up Jinn's "Why all Muslims are Evil" screed.
Thank you. I love the ad hominem remarks. Its a compliment.
Sir, There were Indian Muslims too.Millions of Indian Muslims. Why didnt they become suicide bombers,or kill British soldiers or civilians?
Drinkaholic. Simple. Strength in numbers. The Mulsims were only about 12% of the Indian population, however the Mulsims WERE being violent during the time of Ghandi, but their hatred and violence was misdirected toward the Hindus, whom the Mulsims falsely believed supported British rule. The Mopla riots for example. Gandhi made many attempts to form a Muslim-Hindu alliance. They eventually all failed. He also believed that the British were truly oppressing the Muslims everywhere. The problem was that Gandhi simply did not understand the mindset of Islamic leaders he was dealing with. Islam does not make binding alliances with non-Muslims. But Gandhi was not totally ignorant of Islamic fanaticism. In the early years of his leadership he once complained that Muslims are bullies and Hindus are cowards during clashes. The Indian Islamic clerics, the Ali brothers had invited the Amir of Afghanistan to invade India, not only to help fight the British, but also to establish Islamic rule of India. Shraddhananda, a Swami who was busy converting Muslims into Hinduism was shot dead by Mulsim Abdul Rashid. No Muslim came forward to condemn the murder, but instead Rashid was declared a martyr and was given martyr status, a namaz (prayed upon) in the mosques. However Mahatma Gandhi's response was the mistaken one of appeasement; the belief that the bully would be transformed if only one shows friendship. So he pardoned all Muslim fanaticism. He said, "I have called Abdul Rashid a brother and I repeat it. Gandhi was forced abandon offering his hand to the Mulsims to carry on with his peaceful demonstrations without the them, and succeeded because of the shear large numbers of Hindus envolved in mass civil disobediance.

Voted : Peaceful non-violent methods
I would just like to say that Gandhi's movement was not strictly Hindu at all. Many Muslims joined him in the non-violent campaign, as did Sikhs, Jains and Buddhists, and other religious groups. Many Muslims joined in the non-violence movement of Gandhi.
Yes, the same Muslims that were attacking and killing Hindus before that time, during that time, and later, and today.
Jinn_the_Kafir - No, not those Muslims. They were the ones that obviously did not follow Gandhi. But there were many that did.
