I'm not even voting, it doesn't take a genius to see where this ballot is going to end up, vote wise. If people are going to be honest here, which will, unfortunately, be too much to ask for, they will look at what Castro has done to his people in the many years he has been in power. You mentioned "having been labeled a dictator by many" but you fail to mention any of the atrocities committed by his regime: Some studies report that up to several thousands of political opponents have been killed, primarily during the first decade of Castro's leadership, exact numbers are not known obviously because Castro did not allow international observers any access to Cuba. Many of those who supported the revolution ended up condemning Castro's leadership: Professor Marifeli Pérez Stable, a Cuban American who at one time supported Castro, said this: "There were thousands of executions, forty, fifty thousand political prisoners. The treatment of political prisoners, with what we today know about human rights and the international norms governing human rights ... it is legitimate to raise questions about possible crimes against humanity in Cuba." Castro himself acknowledges that thousands of Cubans are currently being held, in many cases for decades, as political prisoners, yet he says they are not jailed for their political beliefs, but for 'counter revolutionary activities such as bombings', a claim which many human rights organizations call ludicrous given the sheer number of Cubans who are currently incarcerated simply for their views.
^Bingo Yep, I'm sure Castro has done more for his people. People sent to prison for disagreeing with him, tortured and put to death. Incredibly low wage levels, poverty, etc.
Clearly Castro is not only a hero to Cubans but to people all over the world. I particularly admire his AIDS quarantines, mass murders, the imprisonment of dissidents, the stifling of the economy, the fact that he is not elected &c.
Voted : Comparing Bush to Castro is ludicrous.
There is no comparison
