From the looks of their website i would label them as a hate group, however they are protected under the constitution meaning they have every right to be doing what they are.

But I am not aware of any group that is permitted to foment violence against others. They may have a right to speak, but not to incite hatred nor to disrupt the grieving of survivors.

Actually, they are listed as a hate group by most organizations. I checked out the Southern Poverty Law Center which is probably the leading group monitoring hate groups to see what they said. They certainly have this group on the watch list. The Anti-Defamation League also monitors them. Some mainstream church groups do as well.

Although I find them despicable there is no advantage to silencing them. Their speech, hate-filled as it is, can be countered with more speech.

Elvislennon is so funny. Its cool jappy i slapped lennons mom last night for not paying me. Tell her ill be back for my money. Corrupt i dont know where your from but you get some messed up info this isnt the 50's anymore. The kkk doesnt rally freely if there is even still a kkk they do it hidden. And you can only find the kkk in places in the deep south like alabama where noone really pays attention to. The neo-nazis dont rally they only speak of there beliefs to others face to face or threw hate music which is all underground. Even in Germany they have to hide there white power concerts or they will be arrested. I know people in my town who run there lips about being in the kkk and ones who claim to be nazis. Then when a black person walks by they show respect like there scared. After the black person leaves they claim the black person was scared of them. Jappy you make a good point and i think these fruitcups in here took the question wrong. If it wasnt at a funeral then fine they are only using freedom of speech but that is wrong and something should be done about it. If someone came to one of my loved ones funerals to protest them being in the military i would end up beating the protesters.
Ah good point Fiddle. I guess I forget that the KKK still holds rallies, that neo nazis still exist and that the NAACP is still going full steam ahead. I suppose then I shouldn't be surprised that Westboro is allowed to do what they do. Protecting free speech is important but it is in such poor taste to picket a funeral and celebrate someone being killed.
