WILL THERE EVER BE ANOTHER US PRESIDENT WHO IS OVERWHELMINGLY RESPECTED?

[+] serious ballot by jappy
ACTIVE Wed Aug 16, 06 - Mon May 11, 09

Is our society today just too complex, and too wide open with media access everywhere, for there ever to be another US President who is overwhelmingly respected and supported?

If you look at every president over the last 40 years, maybe even more than that, you will find probably at least a third of the American public would say (insert name here) was a bad president.

Will we ever have another president that we can look up to and think of as a hero or role model?

ATTENTION ATTENTION ATTENTION

This is not a ballot to hash out why so and so sucks or why someone got a blow job in the white house or who messed up Vietnam, who pushed inflation sky high in the 70's or who orchestrated watergate. So see if you can avoid using any names of ex presidents in the discussion of this ballot. This is merely a question about future presidents. Are we too open to finding fault within most people to respect anyone who becomes president?

No, it's not likely we will ever have another President seen as a hero or be respected by most
Yes, there will be another president who will be respected universally
I have never respected any of the presidents.
I have loved and respected all of the presidents dearly.

I've heard people say that its partly because of the media and special interest groups and the President is forced to try and please everyone. And by trying to do that, others get offended.

I think much of the reason why is also because Americans tend to want things their way all the time. There was an article I read on line that said that Americans want better access to healtcare, more education programs, funding for the arts and things like that...but they do not want their taxes raised to pay for any of it.

I think maybe the office of the President is a thankless job in some ways. But I totally respect the office and I think we will have another President that is appreciated and respected again. At least I hope so! :)

Good points. I think it is probably unlikely that such an event will happen, but I do believe it is possible.

A combination of intelligence, judgment, concern for all segments of American society, integrity, valuation of principle of covenience, valuation of country of Party ... all of these would position a president to be respected -- even if segments of the population disagreed with his ideology/ actions.

Of course, I am aware that these are exceptionally rare traits and don't seem to be 'selected for' in the Campaign climate.

Alternately, effective leadership during a major crisis might also produce a highly respected president. Of course, this requires that the president wasn't responsible, wholly or in part, for the crisis in the first place.

Sorry ... should have been "valuation of principle OVER covenience, valuation of country OVER Party ..."

Esssentially, we don't need a president who is a Republican or Democrat ... we need one who is an American.

Yes I do think that in the future there will be a President that people from both sides of the political specturm will respect.Right now we are going through a period political division but one day I think there will come a President that appeals to reason and common sense and he will unify the nation again.
