BEST WAYS TO RUIN A FRIENDSHIP

I gave a loan to a friend , at the time I had extra money
put aside for my vacation so it was no big deal.
Six months later, he hasn't made one payment, I can shuffle some
things or use my
credit card for my vacation, but why should I have to do that? The
fact is, if he
really needed the money , I wouldn't have a problem, but I hear of him
buying expensive items, going to some expensive restaurants, things I
can't afford to do.

He is avoiding me, which makes me more bothered, I don't know, how do
you deal with such dilemmas, is money worth a friendship, should I
just forgive the loan, chalk it up as a lesson learned?

yeah, lesson learned
Take him to Judge Judy
Never loan money to friends
Put a gun to his head and tell him to pay up or die.

Your friend sounds like a wanker to me.

Myself, I just call it a gift, whenever I have it to give, and don't plan on getting it back.

I have, and will, loan money to my freinds... but loans and amounts are based on the friendship.
You definitely need to approach him...
Although, I would approach it as if it were URGENT, an emergency... make something up if you have to.
If he is avoiding you and has failed to make any repayment arrangements... His next step will very likely be coming up with a reason to end your friendship altogether, and thus justifying, in his own mind, not having to pay you back!

There's definately a certain limit to loan friends. I wouldn't go to the lenghts you did, unless they absolutely, absolutely, needed it.

I have a 'friend' who borrowed money several decades ago. Paid back 1/3rd after several years. Since then ...

I wrote it off. No more, however.

Too bad. That's a hard lesson. Never loan money to friend.

Demand the money back and don't do it again (at least not with this guy).

A friend that's worth keeping wouldn't try to cheat you like that.

I had that problem. If a friend is too insistant that you'd loan them money if you were their friend, don't do it.
