SHOULD IT BE A PRIVILEGE, OR A RIGHT, TO CHOOSE YOUR OWN DOCTOR?

[+] serious ballot by mojo

... instead of having an insurance plan choose one for you?

It's a privilege. If I don't have enough money, I don't have the right to choose.
It's my right to choose my own doctor, whatever the circumstances..
Other.

Trust me, folks. THis is something you *definitely* want to be able to choose. I've had one doctor who was ready to commit me to a sanitarium, because he incorrectly diagnosed me as having TB.

Most insurance plans have a list of doctors from which a person can choose.

But of course if the intent of this question is "how can we increase the already astronomical cost of healthcare even higher" then it should be a right.

Does your insurance policy assign you to a doctor?

If so, you should change policies.

Changing policies is easier said than done.

Usually the insurance companies with the lowest rates have strict stipulations regarding prior health conditions. I.e., you can't qualify for love or money if you've ever had any kind of illness. Changing to another policy with less strict 'rules' almost always involves paying unaffordable rates for the privilege.

Medical care is not cheap. Some resort to family 'receits', such as pouring turpentine on a bad cut and a slice of raw potato on a boil. Some have even done their own stitching. I have a collection of these 'receits'.

My three children were all induced labors. My wife and I wanted to schedule a day when we could get a doctor that speaks English.

True story.

You should have the right to exchange anything that is rightfully yours with another consenting adult.

Oh. I thought the question was about whether or not you should be able to change as a right or not.

Not whether or not the entire system is broken, which it may well be. Although my experience has been pretty good, I don't expect that my experiences are universal.
