ARE LIARS MORE LIKELY TO COMMIT MURDER ?

[+] serious ballot by thesoothsayer
created Mon Aug 21, 06

I remember as a child I was told that if you lie, you would steal, and if you steal, you would kill. I guess what was suggested was lying was a "gateway act" that leads to eventual murder. Do you believe that people that lie excessively is more apt to be (or condone) murder?

Yes
No

Those who lie most often, are the least caring of rules and the meaning of honesty and morality.

From experience all the murderers that I've known have been habitual liars unless they were the professional hitmen. Those guys rarely lied.

margaret, you completely misunderstood his question.

I agree that all people tell little lies, but there are some people far more prone to lie about everything regardless of who they hurt.

I believe these types of people are more prone to commit murder.

I would say yes, but its a tenous correlation at best

Mr. Jappy, I do not think I misunderstood the question. The question asks if I believe that people who lie excessively are more likely to commit murder than those who do not. I do not believe that excessive lying is connected to a propensity to commit murder. It may even turn out that murderers lie less often than the majority. For example, murder is most often committed as a crime of passion; a one-time event in the murderers life. It has been noted that murderers, if they are paroled, almost always finish their parole without incident and never reoffend. This suggests that, excepting the one murder, that they are actually better in other areas of their lives than most of us. Is there a relationship between lying and murder? I seriously doubt it. I don't think I misunderstod the question, do you?
