ONE OF THESE PEOPLE IS TELLING THE TRUTH ...

[+] serious ballot by Cathexis
ACTIVE Tue Aug 22, 06 - Sun Apr 13, 08

August 2006, George W Bush responded to a question about what Iraq had to do with the attack on the World Trade Center with a vehement 'Nothing!'

But some years ago, VP Dick Cheney told Tim Russert ...

'Well, what we now have that's developed since you and I last talked, Tim, of course, was that report that's been pretty well confirmed, that he (Al Qaeda guy) did go to Prague and he did meet with a senior official of the Iraqi intelligence service in Czechoslovakia last April, several months before the attack.'

So ... who do you believe is telling the truth about Iraq's involvement with 9/11?

Bush: Iraq has nothing to do with 9/11
Cheney: Iraq was involved in the 9/11 attack

For once, I believe Bush.

Check out a PBS program 'Cheney: The Dark Side'. Very revealing. I bet it's available on DVD, but watch for it in reruns.

Cheney's news isn't news. There were stories circulating about this apparent connection between Iraq and Al Qaeda immediately after 9-11. They proved impossible to verify, and we will never know. I do think Iraq, and the whole Arab world, was happy about 9-11. From their point of view, the western bully had gotten socked in the eye. They hated and hate America. Did Iraq have anything to do with 9-11? Probably in a loose way: Providing some of the support for Al-Qaeda (and other radical Islamic groups as well), but not funding the precise attack on 9-11.

margaret: You are mistaken -- Saddam and Osama were bitter enemies. There was no aid there. Osama hated Saddam's secular rule and his involvement with the evil West (especially the US), up until Gulf War 1. After GW1, there was no reconciliation.

This is an established fact that has been conveniently ignored.

It was wrong for Cheney to imply that Al Qeada had something to do with 9/11 but atleast Bush cleared the matter up at that press conference and at other times.

Cathexis: You are mistaken. If Saddam and Osama were such bitter enemies... Why did Saddam permit one of Osama's lieutenants (Musab Al Zarqawi) to obtain treatment and temporary safety in Iraq AFTER Al Zarqawi was wounded by U.S. forces in Afghanistan? The record is clear that Saddam was writing $25,000 checks to the families of terrorists that carried out attacks. Make no mistake, no matter what they call themselves (Al Qaeda, Hezbollah, Hamas, The Alaxa Martyrs, Islamic Jihad, etc.) they are all the same people, and they received aid from Saddam Hussein. Osama may have hated Saddam, but he hates the USA more. You're blind if you can't see that. You "conveniently ignore that old addage: "The enemy of my enemy, is my friend."

Tode1 -- More lies and spin from the Bush Administration.

Yes, I heard the allegations that Zarqawi went to Baghdad for treatement, specifically to have his leg amputated.

However, in 2004, Newsweek reported that some 'senior U.S. military officials in Baghdad' had come to believe that he still had his original legs. Knight Ridder later reported that the leg amputation was something 'officials now acknowledge was incorrect.' Autopsies of the body also effectively refute that claim.

BTW, why does George W Bush permit so many criminals to be treated in the US? What's that ...? Just becaus ethey are here doesn't mean W permitted it? Well ... that's rational ...

Tode1, I believe it is you who are mistaken.

Corrupt: And if Bush's latest statement was in line with all of his previous statements, I'd graciously acknowledge your point.

However, since it is in stark contrast to dozens of other innuendos, I am more likely to believe that it was an ill- considered 'slip.'

Cathexis: More Liberal Spin!

Zarqawi went to Baghdad for treatement, specifically to have his leg operated on... not amputated. Which was later confirmed by Dept. of State officials.

BTW - Criminals (even terrorists) can receive medical treatment in the USA...... BUT, the law requires that they are then held in custody and referred to the proper entity for due process justice. That didn't happen to Zarqawi while he was in Iraq. They released him and let him perform more terroist acts.

Go hug that little white teddy bear sitting on your bed.
