DO YOU PROFILE?

[+] serious ballot by herzog
created Mon Aug 28, 06

On an individual basis, do you ever engage in profiling?

For instance, you are walking home alone late at night through a bad neighborhood. You hear footsteps behind you. You turn around and it's A) a 7 foot tall, three hundred pound man with tatoos over his face and arms with a crazy look in his eye who has all the appearances of just being released from jail or B) a grandmotherly older woman in a walker. Do you have the same reaction in both cases? I'm guessing not. Even though it is entirely possible that the man in A) is a very nice person who is trying to catch up to you to return your wallet and possibly give you a great big hug and the grandmother from B) might possibly be a serial killer who uses her appearance to put her victims at ease before killing them. Those outcomes are possible. But statistically you are at a greater threat from the huge ex-con than you are from the old lady, so most people would act with a great deal less concern in scenario B than they would in A, despite not knowing the people involved at all, basing their feelings entirely on prior evidence.

Do you do profile like this at all or would you be equally terrified of the old woman?

I profile in this manner
I am just as terrified of old handicapped woman as I am of anyone else
I am not necessarily terrified of either.

Men are much more terrifying than women.

We all know neocons profile: they discriminate against anyone who is black, muslim or otherwise non-Christian, female, liberal, Democratic, lowerclass. They have the most well-developed profiling filters of just about anyone and are terrified of many, many things, especially the sight of a recruiting office.

Everyone profiles to some degree and anyone who claims they dont is a liar or doesnt live on the planet earth or lives in a town where everyone is the same race and gender.

The only things I'm afraid of reside in Washington, DC.

I guess men are more terrifying than most women. Yes, I profile and was profiled (if that's the right way to put it) when a teenager.

The real question is: Would a neocon wet his pants if he saw the big guy?
