Islamo-fascism or the Bush Administration?

* * * * * * * *

About Mr. Rumsfeld’s other main assertion, that this country faces a “new type of fascism.”

As he was correct to remind us how a government that knew everything could get everything wrong, so too was he right when he said that -- though probably not in the way he thought he meant it.

This country faces a new type of fascism - indeed.

Although I presumptuously use his sign-off each night, in feeble tribute, I have utterly no claim to the words of the exemplary journalist Edward R. Murrow.

But never in the trial of a thousand years of writing could I come close to matching how he phrased a warning to an earlier generation of us, at a time when other politicians thought they (and they alone) knew everything, and branded those who disagreed: “confused” or “immoral.”

Thus, forgive me, for reading Murrow, in full:

“We must not confuse dissent with disloyalty,” he said, in 1954. “We must remember always that accusation is not proof, and that conviction depends upon evidence and due process of law.

“We will not walk in fear, one of another. We will not be driven by fear into an age of unreason, if we dig deep in our history and our doctrine, and remember that we are not descended from fearful men, not from men who feared to write, to speak, to associate, and to defend causes that were for the moment unpopular.”

And so good night, and good luck. (Keith Olbermann)

The Bush Administration isn't permanent.

Bush administration? You must be kidding. The democrats will likely win both houses of congress and put a lot of limits on the Bush administration. The same isn't true of Islamic fascism.

How about neither. I mean Jesus Christ get a grip people. Al Quada have NEVER stated that they wish to invade or assimilate the USA. The 9/11 attacks were a response to US foreign policy not US domestic policy. The neo cons are a nasty bunch but they have a few obstacles in their way like the US constitution, the Bill of Rights, the Supreme Court and the citizens of the United States 49% of who never voted for these clowns in the first place. As Abe Lincoln said "This too shall pass".

The Bush crime family is just another lap-dog for the Rothschild, Oppenheimer, Rockefeller and Murdoch families.

At the risk of sounding like I'm agitating something, allow me to agitate something...

Where else can I, for the unpardonable crime of stating opposition to the views of the people ostensibly placed in office to serve *me*, be forced to endure insults as to my patriotism and, on occasion, sexual preference?

I think you need to roll with the punches TruthSeeker. The US seems to be polarised at the moment between those for and against President Bush and both sides seem to be happy to call each other names. I hate to quote from car adverts but deep down you know who you are. You know what you have achieved in life and you know what you have contributed to society. If people want to insult you because of your beliefs then it says more about them than it does about you.

Whether you agree or disagree with the Bush administration you can't seriously believe they are a fascist threat to American democracy. There are checks and balances that are built into this government to protect against a hostile takeover by one branch.Look at the resent rulings by the S.Court they forced Bush to charge the detainees at gitmo and struck down his domestic spying program as unconstitutional.

Teh so-called 'ISlamo-fascists' have as much chance of destroying or undermining us as the Luxembourg Navy has.

If/when this country loses its freedom or form of government, it will be due to Internal actions, not External threats.
