The Taliban is on the rise; Osama is still in hiding; the warlords are still in power; the Karzi government is weakening; the level of background violence is increasing; the drug trade is booming; and the government is turning more fundamentelist (even recreating the religious police.

Why the hell do people make ballots with a question that they answer with their description. And why the hell are people so negative. Afganistan is actually doing fairly well for a country of extreme poverty.

Suuuure, because poverty = heroin production and the murder of soldiers employed to "keep the peace". You're right it's the same situation in a lot of poor countries.
