Several. They don't talk a lot about their religion with me, however. Nice folks. But, if one of them started trying to coerce his/her religion, I wouldn't think he/she was so nice. Thing about it is; a belief system enforced by the tip of a gun (or threat of peril, ie terror) isn't much of a belief system. I have gone out and bought a copy of the Q'ran the Americans became involved in the conflict, though.
The friends and colleagues I interact with, do not seek to convert me, in fact I am the one who annoys them with countless question. In fact if anyone tries to convert me, its the born again Christians.
I said "coerce" not "convert." What do they believe about the eternal destiny of people who don't believe as them? This isn't to be controversial, it's just a question. Lots of times we have to consider where a person is coming from when they try to persuade, and lots of times we have to consider how they're going about trying to actually do that persuasion.
You said you "annoy" them. On what evidence do you base that assessment?
^After all, if indeed they like you, and I assume they do, (what's not to like, right? I should think they would be happy that you've been asking so many questions.
See my previos response to this comment in another ballot. Islam is NOT a religion of peace and tolerance, if you don't believe me, read a few books on Mohammed, read the qu'ran and read a book on the history of Islam.
Yes, I do know ONE muslim that is nice people.
jinn, is that you?
You don't annoy them, Steel. That's just a projection. You already said in your description that they embrace the opportunity to share which contradicts the "annoy" analysis. I agree with your description's take on the whole thing: " They in fact embrace the chance to communicate with me and we have had many conversations (some of which were heated) about Islam and the world we live in today." --by Steelhamster They're monotheists, as am I. If they care about you, they probably want you to believe as they do concerning the God of Abraham, as they understand Him. I said I don't talk lots with my Islamic friends, neighbors, and co-workers about matters of faith. Thanks for reminding me that I should. Communication is beautiful.
Our Muslim friends are from Nepal. well one of them grew up in France and her daughter was born here but they're Napalese. They flew back to see their family last month and they were kinda worried about flying, it was right after that last Big airline drama.

Perhaps 'annoy' was a poor choice of words, given its the wee small hours here in the UK. Perhaps I am persistant, but the enyoy the discourse and are pleased I come to it with an open mind... incidently I also give them my views on Socialism, and that too throws up some good debates.
Ok ask your muslim friends why there people hate us so much. Even though we do buy there oil and give them as much as we can. We try to rebuild schools there and set up military bases to keep safe from others. With all done they say we are trying to occupy there land and take it over. Then when we leave they build up groups of terrorists to kill the whites. Ya not the blacks, spanish asian or anybody else. No see the only want to destroy the whites. Then any country that isnt white and supports the whites will get terrorist attacked also. If we wanted to occupy the oh so crappy land of afghanistan and iraq we would already. Now i am not being racist cause i also have muslims friends but see muslims in america and in the middle east are two different things. The ones in america are happy and glad to have what they have. The ones in the middle east are taught different in more of a hateful way. All im saying is if i lived in a poor nation (iraq) and a more superior nation invaded mine for good causes i would use common sense and support them not try and kill them by blowing myself up because some guy tells me to. Also you cant blame the hatred of the muslims on how there living. Africa is in worse condition then middle east and you dont see them blowing up.
no, you see them killing each other with machetes like good christians.

I'm not sure what point there is to how many people you know that are Muslim. It is kind of like saying "some of my best friends are black". Knowing a lot doesn't necessarily mean you understand or get an accurate reflection. On the other hand, someone may know just one Christian and learn more about that faith than someone who knows 200 or more. Or as an extreme example, it doesn't take me knowing hundreds of KKK members to know that while they care about their children, they certainly don't care about anyone that doesn't fit into their little idea of what is right (and white). They certainly aren't "good people". I don't think you can judge a religion just based on whether you get along with them.
Steel, I thought we'd been over this, even if you know 20 or more as a representative sample this is an inconsequential amount. Think back to your statistics class, is a sample of 20 out of 1 billion representative, or statistically meaningless?
And does it work the other way? What if I've met a few muslims who are rabid supporters of bin laden, 911 and terrorism against infidels in general, would that be proof that all muslims feel this way? Or does that sort of generalization based on a tiny minority only count if its to your advantage?
And as a follow up question: I know several british users who espouse insane conspiracy theories about 911, where that one sock goes in the wash, zionists, taking over the world, etc etc. Should I conclude from this that all brits support insane conspiracies (or most) or should I base that sort of generalization more on the results of public opinion polls taken from hundreds or even thousands of brits, rather than a few who are probably not typical?
According to the neocons, the less you know about a people, the better able you are to judge them, then hate them.
Herzog, why can't you ever answer no? It's plain and clear that you haven't. Can't you answer no, ever? US_MarineCorp69, does that count for Muslims like Tarek Fatah and Raheel RAza who spoke out against Shari'a law and are now facing death threats from Muslims? Does that account for a Muslim like the one who infiltrated the the terrorist group in Canada, and helped bring them down, because while he supports the jihad in Afghanistan, he doesn't in Canada? Does that account for the Aussie Muslim who offered to swap himself for the Australian journalist kidnapped in Iraq, and went so far as to go to the Middle East? Do they all hate the West too?

Herzog, you don't know any Muslims and you've never spoken to one about what leads him/her to his beliefs. Why don't you try talking to one? Are there any Texas? You don't have to emphathize, but it would help you broaden your horizons a little bit, wouldn't you say?

"They all have dreams and aspirations for their children, none of which is to see then strapping TNT to theur chests, they work hard and try to live a good life as set down in the Koran." by Steelhamster. Cannot this be interpreted as reverse stereo-typing? I too know Muslims that are kind, warm, friendly and hard working, but does this mean they are this way because of the religious beliefs they follow. Perhaps they are simply this way because of their up-bringing by loving and caring parents and families. If you are waiting, or expecting a muslim you meet to criticise you and lash out at you because you are non-muslim, yet don't see this, does this automatically mean to you that they are incapable of violence, or that their religious beliefs are about peace? The whole world is full of the "nice guy next next door" that actually turned out to be serial killer. Book covers don't tell the story, the chapters of the book do. We cannot judge people by how they behave to us on the street, but if we knew the inside of their mind, their true beliefs, ideologies, desires and way of thinking, we would certainly have a new opinion. But people don't openly talk about such topics do they? If you want to learn and understand Islam, are you going to get the truth and facts from a muslim? Do you think if you asked a muslim to his face "is Islam a religion of hate and intolerance?", that you are going to get the answer "yes"? A muslim would be a fool to tell you this. All religious believers are biased. You cannot believe in something, especially a god and not be biased!

About nineteen, if memory serves. And *all* of them are appalled by what's going on these days, for the official recoord.
jinn, i've already shown you the ACTUAL acts about the history of islam and it's teachings.
^you are the least likely person on this site to have shown me anything worthwhile. Actually I take that back, Ken is, then you.
All religious texts contain references to death et al. Do followers of the bible all blow up hospitals and doctors? A minority should not be proof of evil within a religion.

... and strangely, they don't seem to express any major need to convert or kill me.
STEELHAMSTER: "A minority should not be proof of evil within a religion" That's right, the teachings clearly written in religious doctrines and understood and emulated by their respective followers are the proof of the "evil".
STEELHAMSTER: "All religious texts contain references to death et al." But only Allah (quran) clearly instructs his followers to kill people of other relious faiths.
STEELHAMSTER: "Do followers of the bible all blow up hospitals and doctors?" No. If any do, it has nothing to do with what the Bible teaches. If the Bible did teach its followers to do this, we would see their attacks everyday.
.... we do see christian violence every day
your refusal to even watch a documentary on the subject proves your dishhonesty.
There are none so blind than those who cannot see. A bigot is hardly ever swayed from his doctrine of hate, the very thing he accuses his targets of.
facts be damned
Steelhamster, denouncing me by calling me a bigot does not prove that anything I say is a lie. Bigots spread lies based on unfounded beliefs and false evidences. When you simply call me a bigot without proof what does that make you?
I am against hate. I am against doctrines of hate. Nazism, the KKK and Islam are all based on hate. I am against them all. But you call me a bigot for that???? I have to question your illogical thinking.
amazing, you demand proof and then provide it yourself. you're finished, bigot.
Yes, "mr. triumphalist I'm always right and your always wrong neo boy."
And for goodness sakes, learn the meaning of the term "bigot".
noun: a prejudiced person who is intolerant of any opinions differing from his own to the letter.
We all belong to the human race. All religions, ONE RACE.
um, relevance? we're not discussing race.
Ya i bet any money Tarek Fatah and Raheel RAza were on the pay roll by the u.s. Im not saying that all muslims are evil because that would be a stereotype but really in all opinion i dont care and if i was president wouldnt let any into the country atleast for a while because now our people cant fly freely without worrying about the plane being hijacked.
