COMMENTS:
Personally I think it's suspect when a person goes out of their way to show their patriotism through flags and other meaningless symbols. I think a persons actions show how patriotic they are and that "worshiping" a flag is not only unpatriotic it's a stupid way to mask your guilt.
Voted : No
Mr.Robingaylord: You confuse me. Are you asking if the display of flags and bumper stickers masks hatred for one's country? Why would you display a flag or a bumper sticker if you hated your country? It doesn't track for me. If I hated my country, displaying patriotic symbols would be the last thing I would do. It would be like a NRA member displaying anti-gun slogans on his car. Not likely.
Voted : They can be.
When not backed up with other actions, I suppose it's possible; however, I don't see a direct correlation.
I think we're gonna need a lot more flag stickers with the mess we're in right now...
margaret123- It's shameful not to be patriotic in post 9-11 America. You could say its like racist people that constantly feel the need to tell everyone they are not racist to mask their shame.
No, Mr. Robingaylord, it is not "shameful to not to be patriotic in post 9-11 America." What is shameful is that the forces of reaction try to paint citizens who resist the elimination of liberty in the name of security. It is shameful when honest debate is suppressed in the name of patriotism.
Well, the foregoing was not grammatically or logically correct. But you get my idea? We should be ashamed to be afraid of exercising our liberty because some reactionary moron may label us as "unpatriotic."
Voted : No

" It is shameful when honest debate is suppressed in the name of patriotism" What suppression of honest debate do you speak of? I sure haven't seen or heard any.
