WHY IS ABC/DISNEY TAKING A DIVE?

[+] ballot by Cathexis
created Thu Sep 07, 06

The ABC/Disney media conglomerate is planning to air an account of 9/11 that they acknowledge is fiction (they assert this gives them creative license).

Public backlash has been fierce, which should have been anticipated after public backlash forced CBS to pull a mini-series that was less than flattering about the Reagans, a few years ago.

Why was ABC/Disney so willing to tarnish its corporate image?

They were arrogant and believed there'd be no public outcry
They were willing to do anything to help the GOP in the 2006 midterm elections
They are so 'liberal' that they need an enemy in power
Their image will not be tarnished by this

I already wrote to ABC and to Scholastic (a childrens educational products company that promised to disseminate this tripe) to politely yet firmly express my displeasure.

Oh, for reference, the 'docudrama' is entitled 'Path to 9/11.'

Oh, that's all tied in. Forget I said anything.

I should add, for those of you who are unaware, that this appears to be a propaganda piece to benefit the GOP.

What a surprise.

There must be some powerful right wing types in positions of power over at ABC/Disney. I'm sure ratings is always a consideration too. If they can pull it off, it will be a win win for the GOP...

They are owned by the owners of America and the world, and want very much to ensure a continuation of the practices and policies that have made them mega-millions during the last six years. Have they pooped in their nests by outing themselves? Let's hope so.

Politics. Bias and trying to influence public opinion prior to an election. Its failing. People are onto them and I think it will backfire.

Mr. Cathexis: "politely and yet firmly," yes. Or rudely and yet powerfully. I'll take either.

Ratings. They know half the people complaining about it will watch it anyway. It's like passing by a traffic accident without slowing down to look.

Republicans or democrats, ABC fans or not, many will watch it just out of curiosity. And to give themselves more fuel to point fingers.

Telling the truth doesn't tarnish an image.

It's fair to ask, "Did President Clinton fail to act because he was too busy, too engaged, too preoccupied with dodging the fallout of the Monica Lewinski scandal?"

That question is valid. It was being asked at during the scandal... And, in 2001 we found out that those fears were proper.
