Let's admit it: America is no longer a Republic, much less a democracy. For the last 30 years (at least), we have seen a diminishing of individual liberty and an ascension of government power. This government power has been secured by the rich for their use alone. We seemed not to notice. Should we have seen it coming and done something about it?

No one cared, that's been the problem

There is no oligarchy margaret123 the will on the people still reigns supreme.The politicians in the Congress are pissing themselves and do you know why?It because the people's votes still count and still shape the government!Do not fall for the fear of liberalism, fascism is not coming to a street corner near you.

I saw it coming years ago, unfortunately the right have used the media to push the american dream, but the thing about dreams, you have to be asleep and many citizens have been put to sleep for a long time.

As for people voting, its only true if the votes are counted aren't in control of family members in Florida.

How many have had their voting rights expunged for dubious reasons.

The disenfranchising began the day the neocons took charge...

... and the election in November wont throw up many surprises.

Remember it doesnt matter who you vote for, the politicians always get in.

Change will never come by sitting at a computer and complaining about it. People have more power than they want to give themselves credit for. But if they dont give themselves credit for it, it makes it easier to point the finger and say "it's not my fault, I didnt cause it".

While I would be lying if I said the government wasn't greatly influenced by the rich and priveleged, the people still, ultimately, control the fate of their government.
