Voted : Different Fan Bases Require different Marketing Techniques.
I live near the team they beat out for the title. I can attest to the fact that WNBA does have a following (at least in my area); however, if they really want the thing to fly, they've got to sell it to THOSE folks. It's not to put anyone down. Just, from a marketing strategy perspective. And, talking about WHO the fan base is might come off sounding... WELL, a little bit politically incorrect. Pardon me to those users who read this and are offended... especially if YOU or YOUR acquaintances are WNBA fans who are NOT from the groups I will speak about. I believe, among WNBA fans, YOU are a "fringe element" I'm just thinking and speaking of $$$ and SENSE. They can start by marketing to Feminists and Lesbians; they'll find their LARGEST support group there... even though OTHER fans ARE out there. Then, they can get some cracker jack marketing analyst types to try and figure out how they can reach the MOST avid fans from the NBA; many of whom DON'T wish to be associated with the former group. It's a tricky business of which you speak, JAPPY. But, I think it can be done. It may involve becoming a catalyst for a "shift" in the sports paradigm. I may get some criticism for what I've just said. But that's okay... because like I said it's $$$ and SENSE... I am making no moral assessment whatsoever. I'm a pragmatist in this matter.
Voted : No one cares
Even here in Detroit no one cares.
Sorry, but what's the WNBA again? I think I heard about it once before.

Maybe if they had a Ladies' Dunking Contest...
