DO YOU SUPPORT THE PRESIDENT'S REQUEST FOR EXPANDED DOMESTIC SPYING POWER?

At first blush, most of us may reflexively dismiss this request as ridiculous. After all, we've just been through the revelations that the government has engaged in an intense, and probably illegal, program that taps our phones and computers without our permission. Now, they want more authority to expand the program we already hated? In a word, yes. Is this too arrogant or what? Yes. Still, the world is growing more dangerous by the second, and if wiretapping makes it easier to catch terrorists before they strike, why wouldn't we want the government to use this tool? There are lots of arguments. Let us hear yours.

The government needs all the tools it can get to fight terrorism
No. We should not give up liberty to defend liberty
Yes. The president is right on this one.

An important distinction: NO ONE said they should give up wiretapping (although they try to spin the debate as if this is what is under discussion). The issue is warrant- less wiretapping.

The issue is not limitation of options, but presence of oversight and presence of accountability.

This is just the beginning. Bush and his acolytes hate freedom, and will keep chipping away at it until it's gone.

This is just another ploy for Bush to gain more control.
Ben Franklin sums it up with this statement. "Those who would give up liberty to purchase a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety."

i doubt i could ever support anything this president requests.....

but to the specific question - if we voluntarily give up our liberty - then what exactly are we struggling to protect?

So thats why Bush was wearing a pair of those X-Ray glasses on TV this moring! That's his idea of increased domestic spying? To see through Katie Couric's blouse? What a cad.
