GAS PRICES HAVE DROPPED! IS THIS A CONSPIRACY TO HELP THE GOP?

[+] ballot by FiddleFaddleOnLSD
created Mon Sep 11, 06

Is there a conspiracy to help the Republicans win re-election? Are the gas and oil companies secretly helping out?

Or is it just supply and demand?

It is a neutral ballot. Take it however you want.

COMMENTS:
If it isn't intentional, I must be psychic ... I predicted such an event when prices first started to climb.

Prediction #2: After the November elections, the price will mysteriously and fortuitously rise again, and stay high.

I heard a report on the radio this morning that talked about the remarkable drop in prices and noted that no one seems to really have a good explanation as to why this drop has occured.

What a shocker.

And, it's not a neutral ballot when one option is in all caps, with exclamation points and the Republican option isn't.
by cranky on Mon Sep 11, 06 1:34pm [+]

It isn't a "republican" option cranky. It is a common sense answer, a logical answer based on economics.
by FiddleFaddleOnLSD on Mon Sep 11, 06 1:38pm [+]

Yes, the Republicans control the world's oil prices (eyes rolling).
by ClosetIguana on Mon Sep 11, 06 1:40pm [+]

Oh goody. The price goes up a dollar and then it goes down 30 cents.

It will be back above $3.00 at the next sight of a hurricane.

"It isn't a "republican" option cranky. It is a common sense answer, a logical answer based on economics."

But obviously the one you prefered. And since I was able to easily see that, it wasn't a neutral ballot.
by cranky on Mon Sep 11, 06 2:03pm [+]

Yep. Low gas prices prove the GOP is conspiring to win votes. High gas prices prove the GOP is conspiring to make money. Average gas price prove the GOP conspiracy is taking the day off to celebrate the power and money gained from the last two conspiracies.
by herzog on Mon Sep 11, 06 2:10pm [+]

There's a glut on the market, low hurricane incidents (as Beelzebubba pointed out) and the US economy is slowing.

Voted : CONSPIRACY!!
I was expecting the drop a little closer to election time, personally...
by Truthseeker013 on Mon Sep 11, 06 3:49pm [+]

Okay, I am almost never a conspiracy theory believer, but I do think that gas prices are being deliberately manipulated to help keep the Republicans in power. The big oil companies, be they foreign or domestic reap huge profits from the policies and practices of this Congress and this Administration, so the real question is: Do we believe that a huge industry with mega billions to spend, and to lose, will stand by and allow the "democratic process" to determine their future? Without trying to do something about it? Is that what they do in the market? No. They are economic predators of the first order, and you can bet your bippy that they are on the prowl to protect their profits.
by margaret123 on Mon Sep 11, 06 4:38pm [+]

^How are they causing the prices to drop?
by ClosetIguana on Mon Sep 11, 06 5:51pm [+]

I don't know. I'm naturally suspicious of the Repubs. Too many odd coincidences right around election time. My bet is on a concerted effort to influence voters Its not going to work

They normally drop every fall about this time. Provided there's no big hurricane scare. They'll jump back up closer to late fall/winter when the demand increases again.
by Grumpy_Person on Mon Sep 11, 06 6:47pm [+]

Okay, Mr. ClosetIguana, I don't know. Here's what leads me to feel the oil companies are manipulating the price: 1. We know that they reported record profits despite claiming that they were only "passing on" the prices they paid to producers; 2. The price of oil has not gone down significantly; 3. They definitely protect their profits; 4. George Bush and his Administration protect their profits by favorable taxation and practices; 5. They have incredible profits at stake in the election. So, can I prove they are manipulating gas prices? No. However, I do think that this manipulation is occurring at the OPEC level.

If that is what you are basing your theory that the Republicans are manipulating the world's oils prices I'd say it's less than a weak argument. There's not even a hint of evidence.

Herzog's comment should be required reading.

Great ballot. Some of you believe the 'c' word.

I smell the smell of something that smells smelly...I believe there is a link...remember the excuses of why the prices skyrocketed ? Refineries offline in the Gulf, well they are still offline and in spite of pipeline troubles the prices tumbles... I didn't need my crystal ball for this one...IC_gb

It wouldn't surprise me (yawn) at all to learn there's a huge conspiracy in effect between government and the fat cat corporate welfare recipients.
The rich and powerful hang together with similar goals and "values," and we ARE approaching presidential elections. Two plus two often equals four.
Or it's a helluva coincidence ;-)
