What on God's earth are you talking about? What would make you even think the rights guaranteed under the First Amendment are being threatened?
Are you asking me or Truman? Make your own mind up, have you heard of the Patriot acts 1 one and 2? "The Bill of rights is only a piece of paper?" George Bush Actually that quote would have been an equally compelling quote apposite the photo montage I posted.
Here is a few more prophetic and interesting quotes by Harry S. Truman that may interest you. "Carry the battle to them. Don't let them bring it to you. Put them on the defensive and don't ever apologize for anything". "I had faith in Israel before it was established, I have in it now. I believe it has a glorious future before it - not just another sovereign nation, but as an embodiment of the great ideals of our civilization". "The atom bomb was no "great decision." It was merely another powerful weapon in the arsenal of righteousness"
^^LOL! But those quotes have nothing to do with the insidious potential for an 'enemy within' which is what he was obviously warning his fellow Americans about, it's shortsighted people like you Jinn who are the real enemies of America, sacrificial and wiling lambs to the slaughter - obedient unquestioning sheep to be sacrificed on the altar of the corruption of power and the insatiable gluttony of corporate greed. What do you do folks with people like Jinn, who in their misguided patriotism completely fail to understand the sentiments in that quote, or believe it to be somehow meaningless because the man made other quotes in completely different contexts and times.
Its a good quote, I agree. But I believe most historical quotes, especially political ones, are based on the atmosphere and events happening at the time they were made, and therefore should be taken in context with a grain of salt, especially a half century after they were made.
I can't imagine any modern leader of any progressed democratic nation today, repeating what Truman said about the atom bomb.
OMG! I'm living in fear! Help me someone! Help me before I spill my mocha late on the editorial section of the newspaper I'm reading.
You're missing the point completely Jinn, why do you think I refer to it as a 'prescient' quote?, this is the second in a series I have planned, these great and wise presidents were sages, who could sense the imminent corruption of their high office by the huge corporations they could see growing into out of control behemoths who have now risen up to control the economy of the 'States - they are the real leaders now if you like, the real de facto 'government' - a corruption which has been succumbed to and manifests itself in the puppet government in the White House which is fronted by a man who was handpicked by them, and who is at the beck and call of these fiscal masters, this imbecile wouldn't be fit to shine the shoes of Jefferson or Lincoln, they must be turning in their graves to see the destruction of the Republic they helped to found from within.
