COMMENTS:
What exactly did the Pope say?
I copied and pasted this from earlier comments I made on the Pope's speech. He can say whatever he wants, and if any Muslims object, they can write letters to the editors of major newspapers, boycott products from companies that do business with the Vatican, they can march peacefully in the streets (after having secured the proper permits, of course), they can call the pope nasty names, or do anything that defends their cause as long as they don't hurt anyone or damage any property.
These radical Islamo-Nazis have no credibility after the stink (and I do mean stink) they made after a few silly cartoons about the pedophile Muhammad.
All this has done is four things: 1. Proved the Pope and others are right. Muslims are predisposed to violence if they even slightly perceive that someone is insulting their religion. 2. The further descent and irrelevance of the Catholic church. It started with JP2 kissing the koran and this latest incident shows the Catholic church won't stand up for what it believes. It will grovel to muslims, but won't demand the same in return. 3. The increasing tendency towards Islamo-apologists in today's society. 4. Qaddafi is only following his religion. Convert or die. Muslims call Christians, Jews and others infidels and worse. You don't see these groups firebombing mosques and saying things like "convert or die" or "behead those who insult Christianity". Oh sure, its just a minority...
The error in this ballot is that, once again, the neocons, in their terror of Islam, see it as this monolithic, dark, threatening entity, that goes one way or the other, as a whole or large fractions of a whole, rather than a religion that is spread across hundreds of cultures, made up by people with attitudes that are widely diverse.
Fiddle: Your guru actually made a ballot that is halfway reasonable, and you come in and muck it up with shrill idiocy. "1. Proved the Pope and others are right. Muslims are predisposed to violence if they even slightly perceive that someone is insulting their religion." That's not what the Pope said, and that's not what he apologized for. Yeesh. "2. The further descent and irrelevance of the Catholic church. It started with JP2 kissing the koran and this latest incident shows the Catholic church won't stand up for what it believes. It will grovel to muslims, but won't demand the same in return." Kissing the Koran wasn't groveling. The Pope is always kissing things; it's a sign of respect. "It will grovel to muslims, but won't demand the same in return." I love the illogic of that: Mutual groveling is a good thing. "3. The increasing tendency towards Islamo-apologists in today's society." Actually, there seems to be an increasing tendency toward adolescent fascism with loud, braying calls for hostility and violence toward Muslims (by people who would never actually fight, themselves). "4. Qaddafi is only following his religion. Convert or die." Qaddafi didn't say that. And I suppose Fred Phelps is just following HIS religion. "Muslims call Christians, Jews and others infidels and worse. You don't see these groups firebombing mosques and saying things like "convert or die" or "behead those who insult Christianity". Oh sure, its just a minority..." Oh, right, I've never heard any Westerner say rude things about Muslims. Oh, brother. And as for the violence, our military is doing a pretty good job of killing Muslims. I have an idea. Let's all convert to Judaism!
The 'Muslim World' is populated by roughly 1.5 billion people. This article refers to 2 people.
