FEDERAL JUDGE SAYS IT'S A GOAL TO THINK LIKE AN ATTORNEY. GOOD OR BAD?

"It's a goal of mine to think like a practicing attorney" says Elizabeth Laporte, U.S. Magistrate Judge for the Northern District of California.

Is it good for a federal judge to be a sneaky, lying, conniving cheat in order to serve as a judge? Because a typical lawyer thinks that way.

This should come as no surprise to anyone who follows anything law related in the area of the 9th Circuit Federal Court. The 9th Circuit is notorious for making controversial decisions favoring environmentalists and ACLU views, opinions that very rarely reflect that of the general public or that of the Supreme Court. In fact, the Supreme Court routinely overturns the 9th Circuit with harsh language aimed at curbing the 9th Circuit's opinionated judges.

So it's no surprise that a judge from that area would make a statement about wanting to be like a lawyer while on the bench.

Do you think that statement was good or bad?

Good
Bad
Neither

But not for the reasons you state.

A judge should be impatrial in his/her decisions. And, as a lawyer once saved my miserable hide and another three are cousins of mine, I can't accept such broad libel/slander, whichever it may be.

Make that "impartial", please.

I meant to put that impartiality statement in my ballot. I agree with that statement, Truthseeker

An attorney's role is to achieve a desirable result for the client (I guess that's why jappy considers all lawyers to be cheats). A judge doesn't have a client and should abide by rule of law. Guess what? Judges are human and interpret the application of "rule of law." Furthermore, a good judges don't forget what they once did and they use that knowledge to anticipate where an attorney is going.

Who are you trying to kid? I'm sure you've gone over each of these cases with a find tooth comb, or could it be that you are parroting the opinion of a talking head you saw on Fox News?
by elvislennon on Wed Sep 20, 06 4:12pm [+]

Fox news? Yes, because the Supreme Court bases their opinions on what they see on Fox News, as in, overturning the 9th Circuit's idiotic ruling to change the pledge of allegiance, among other bonehead moves.

You of course would agree with everything they do, being an ultra liberal leftist brainwashed bleeding heart thick head, elvis :)

With reference to the Ninth Circuit's notoriety for "decisions favoring environmentalists," well, Mr. Jappy, we environmentalist have noticed that we all live in the same global environment, and we'd like to at least reduce the poisoning of all our air, the rape of the forests (which produce most of our oxygen), and the focus on profit to the detriment of our health and welfare. Bad stuff that those damned environmentalists support. Baaad stuff.

I like environmentalism and (most of the time) the ACLU. So yeah, sounds fine to me.

I agree with truth, it is bad, but not for the reasons you state.

Also, everyone hates lawyers and the ACLU until they need them.
