COMMENTS:
Mr. Herzog: Where on earth do you dig up this stuff? lol. Yes, it's barbaric, and you know it. You do love to cite the exception as though it proved a rule. Quite amusing.
He's a news anchor these days, only he types in the one keyword Muslims.

Well, they aren't Muslims.. just barbarians.
There are times I read your ballots and want to dip your hands in boiling water. Does that make me a bad person?
i'm kidding. I wouldn't want to dip your hands in boiling water. Its your nuts I'd like to dip in boiling water Does that make me a pervert?
Isay, these aren't muslims.
Hindu or Sihks? where does it say what they are?

You know I was kidding right Herzog?
Voted : This is barbaric
But it's also *their culture*, like it or lump it. There are a great many things about our culture I consider barbaric, but have no choice but to accept at face value. Paris Hilton, rap/hip-hop music andgolf, for example. I'm not being facetious or looking for a rimshot. I think these things are hallmarks of the downfall of civilization, and a much greater danger to society. But these are just the non-sensical ravings of a lunatic mind. Feel free to ignore them.
Isay: it doesn't. They're just indian, so probably hindu. But it most definitely does not lable them as muslims. So saying I posted this because I'm out to get muslims is absurd. Unless of course you're saying all barbaric acts such as these are carried out by muslims? If so I'd have to disagree, many are, but there are plenty of other types of barbarians out there as well. Tom, yes I know you're kidding.
That's THEIR business, isn't it?
Also, how is this a "cultural tradition"?
I know I know, it's reuters. But I see no reason for them to lie on this occasion as muslims. And you just had to bring the word Muslims in to the question, whats the next ballot going be about Muslims, French, Or a swipe at Europeans as a whole?

Well, we all know it is either all or nothing ... we either have to accept everything or reject everything.
Voted : This is barbaric
It unacceptably violates individual rights. I am not denouncing it in an attempt to snob foreigners. If anything I am declaring that it is these foreigners themselves that deserve better, they do not deserve to be treated so unfairly. Hopefully, things will evolve of themselves to improve. If the Indian government wants to prove its commitment to human rights, the right to a fair trial, etc - it should attempt to put an end to this sort of cruelty.
Herzog, lynching was routinely practiced in the American South. "The actual process of lynching was morbid and incredibly violent. Lynching does not necessarily mean hanging. It often included humiliation, torture, burning, dismemberment and castration. Victims were beaten and whipped, many times in front of large crowds that sometimes numbered in the thousands. Coal tar was frequently used to douse the unfortunate victim prior to setting him afire." This practice was condoned by the South as a valid cultural tradition.
elvislennon- but you are speaking in past tense. The circumstances in India are more contemporary.
U.S. Supreme Court Justice William Brennan once offered the following description of an execution by electric chair: ...the prisoner's eyeballs sometimes pop out and rest on cheeks. The prisoner often defecates, urinates, and vomits blood and drool. The body turns bright red as its temperature rises, and the prisoner's flesh swells and his skin stretches to the point of breaking. Sometimes the prisoner catches fire....Witnesses hear a loud and sustained sound like bacon frying, and the sickly sweet smell of burning flesh permeates the chamber. (Ecenbarger, 1994)
EL: no it wasn't. I was condoned by a few, but either way it is not tolerated now and is very illegal. Europeans used to burn witches and jews, but we can hardly hold that against modern europeans now can we?
Isay: I brought muslims (and the US and Israel, but you forgot that bit) in to it because reuters has a history of lying whenever those groups are involved. So far they haven't photoshopped, misled, or outright lied to make hindus/indians look bad, so I don't think they have any particular axe to grind here, so perhaps they aren't lying. But you concede now that they aren't muslims so your original comment was, I'll be generous, misguided?
According to steel this ancient cultural practice is venerable and better than our own due to it's age and we have no right to criticize it.
