Okay, local law enforcement has these "neighborhood watch" programs; where everybody gets together and meets each other, listens to a presentation about the best defenses against crime, etc.
Bottom line is, people supposedly don't know their neighbors as well as they used to. (ie, "hey, that's not (fill in your neighbor's name) that looks suspicious" etc.
What about you? Assuming you live in a town or city, you probably have several close neighbors. How many do you know by first name? How many know you that way?

I know 100% of my neighbors within a block radius by 1st name.
I know all of their faces; but, not their names.
People in our neighborhood are far too transient these days.
I don't WANT to know my neighbors. They don't WANT to know ME.

Only two. An elderly woman named Gladys, and her daughter Rowanda. They live next door. I've lived here 11 years now, but Gladys has lived in this neighborhood since the 1940s (she's in her 80s now). My other neighbors all seem to change too often for me to get to know them very well. Oh, there's a guy down the street who's name is Roy, but I don't know him very well (just see him around and we wave to one another).

Within a block of med, I only have about fifteen neighbors, because the "housing boom" is just that, a honking big explosion that sent a lot of casualties into financial ICU. Of those fifteen, seven of them have moved in within the last year, and most of them are workaholics, whom I rarely see around. Two are flat-out sad examles of humanity, wom I sspect will either be gone or in jail before the year is out.

I know a few neighbors enough to say hi. The one I knew all about was my ex-neighbor from Hell, who is now spreading pestilence in New Jersey.

Most of our neighbors speak spanish, but our neighbor next door well we know him pretty well, we also know he and his friend are definatly doing something when his wife is at work, cause they are always sneaking around together when his buddys there and his buddy is gay, or maybe there all doing something like threesomes, anyways it's fun being nosy 077
